...and there's condiments and such inside, do you automatically assume they are for the employees to use or do you ask if they belong to anyone? The reason I ask is because I just went into the break room to refill my ice and caught a relatively new employee using my Parmesan cheese. I told him that it was actually mine and he apologized and said he thought it was for everyone to use. I told him it was fine, but if he wasn't sure to just ask. For me, it wasn't a big deal, but the principle of the matter. Okay, so if you were him, what would you have thought?

The guy is in his forties. And we don't write our name on our stuff because it's common courtesy not to eat/use other people's food/items. This is my opinion though.

My Parmesan cheese actually WAS in a ziplock bag. I couldn't believe he opened it to use it!

Our break room has two refrigerators and no one touches anything that isn't theirs. I'd never think to use anything I didn't bring in myself.

Condiments, I would usually assume.
Speaking of assumptions, don't you usually label your own goods in the company fridge? I mean, I don't at my job, but there are five of us in the facility. What everyone is going to have for lunch is THE topic of conversation for at least two hours prior to actual lunchtime. I know who got the Italian sub, and who got eggs Benedict. If your kitchen serves, say, the floor, then how is anyone to know?
But condiments are usually fair game, unless otherwise noted on the package.
EDIT: In a zip lock bag? THAT, I would assume belonged to someone.

I would be afraid to put my stuff in there now. If you're gonna have a cow over some Parmesan cheese, think of how you'll feel when the guy spits in your yogurt.

Yup., put your name on it.....However, if someone is desperate for some ketchup or something they might be like "B**CH" won't let anyone use her stuff. So maybe a little note under your name saying something like "help yourself but don't use the last of it w/o telling me."
If the guy is pretty new he's still learning the ropes so I wouldn't be too worried that you offended him or anything. After all, that stuff costs money too, and the company isn't paying for it, you are.
Merry Christmas!

Break room fridges have one mandatory commandment: if you didn't bring it in, don't take it out. Period. How old was this guy? Fourteen? That's the only thing that *might* make it excusable. Otherwise, he's being a jerk or completely clueless.
btw-at our office we put our names on our stuff so it doesn't get taken by mistake.

Geez, it's just Cheeze hehe
I would think it was for everyone. Now if it were labled with someone's name or if it was a small package, then I would think it's off limits

I would think it was for everyone if there was no name on it, but then again, I've been told I'm inconsiderate and only think of myself! Haters! Teehee!

We write our names on things that belong to us. If its not labeled, the company bought it.
