To answer and add depth to this question, please read this article in which Marian Hossa exemplifies the difference between playing hockey in Ottawa and playing in Atlanta. It's priceless...

No- In Dallas hockey is very big, especially in the Northern part of the area (Plano, Frisco, McKinney) Dallas fans are very devoted and fill up the AAC quite well. Hockey is also a big sport for adults and kids here as well. My husband plays on three area teams.
The Dallas Stars are not the only team in the area. The Texas Tornado are very popular and successful (from Frisco) They play NAHL hockey and The Tornado were the first team in 20 years to win three straight Robertson Cups.
So along with that accomplishment as well as a Stanley Cup win for the Dallas Stars in 99 then I think doesn't matter if a NHL is from the south or not.

No, and hockey is indeed growing down here. In NC, most people now will know who the hurricanes are at the very least. They get decent coverage from local news (better then local soccer teams) so on and so forth.
We aren't selling out every game right now (after missing the playoffs last year) but things are generally going well, ad the team is apparently turning a profit. There are teams up north that aren't doing that.
So yes, hockey can work in the south.

I don't think it matters, although I believe it's wishful thinking to believe that the South will truly embrace hockey.
When I look at a city like Nashville, I see a team with a fan base of serious, devoted fans. However, there's a huge dropoff from serious fan to those who don't even realize the Predators exist. There aren't many hardcore fans, and there's a serious lack of casual fans of the game, which is why they'll be in trouble if those serious fans were to lose interest.
I've got no problem with hockey in such markets, but the NHL needs to be realistic in its expectations.

No.
As long as the team has a great fan base and sells tickets night-in and night-out, hockey can work in the South.

The fact that Anaheim, Dallas, Carolina and Tampa Bay are recent Cup champions should be validation enough!

It doesn't matter where the team is so long as they're playing their best and they've got a loyal fanbase that will come out and support them as well as owners and staff who are doing their best to succeed.
