Depends. If he asked me formally on a date, I would expect him to pay. If we both casually during a conversation mentioned hanging out sometime and decided on dinner, I would expect to pay for my own.

Well if a guy is on his first date with a girl, it is expected of him to pay. If you don't pay then she will think you are a cheep free loading ***. And will not want to go out with you again. So if you like the girl, the proper thing to do is pay for luch or dinner.

I expect him to buy me lunch/dinner... but then again, i'm willing to share with the expenses... perhaps women have different points-of view with regards to this

Why should he buy your lunch? Give him a good reason. Make him want to pay for you. (NOT SEXUALLY) For example, if he's about to ask for the bill, say,"Split it please"to the waiter . Insist on paying half or the whole thing until you get your way. show him you are independant and you don't need him. This will make him work hard so you want him.

He buys, it's only courteous. Maybe on the third date, I'll buy. But I sort of think it's the man's responsibility.

I expect him to pay for the first couple of dates. A guy who doesn't pay just turns me off.
