She sounds like a healthy woman. That's the problem these days, if everyone isn't a size 0-5, they "think" they're over weight. Tired of seeing skeletons. One answer was right though, about Marilyn Monroe, but back then the sizes still went by numbers, but they weren't equal to todays. Back then a 12 was a 5 or 7 today, which is normal and healthy. Your wife is fine, love her as she is!

I'm similar height and build to your wife but lighter and I wear a large in most shops. Generally, the more expensive the shop, the smaller the sizes. To be on the safe side, get her an XL especially if she likes things baggy. However, you do run the risk of a massive strop if she's a large. Have a look in her wardrobe and see what she buys from similar stores.

Is there anyway you can sneak a peak in the closet and check out the size of one of her other jackets or sweaters? Just be sure to pay attention if she complains that she has been loosing weight and her old clothes are too big now for her (or she's been gaining weight and they're too small) and she has nothing to wear.

I'd get a large. If you've already found the jacket you want to get her, you may want to hang around the store for a woman who is your wife size and ask her to try it on. I've done that alot when shopping for my husband or stepkids and always found people to be very accommodating, especially during the holiday season....but ask nicely!

either measure her, or look at the labels inside the stuff in her wardrobe when she's out. Sounds like she's probably a UK 18 or 20 but it's impossible to tell from a few words.

At least a large maybe an XL to be safe.
I don't know though! You should definitely ask her because that could really offend her.
