Are you sure that is the cause?
There are a lot of women that don't lose there hymen till they give birth!
Other reasons could be you are tense and the muscles aren't relaxing (even if you think you are relaxed, if this is first time/early days/wrong time/place/person/frighten of getting found out/pregnant) your body will react to this, it could be to do with him, sometimes men are not quite hard enough and need placing in the right place! also are you wet enough, try buying a lubricant as that is a big cause of it not going right or pain after.

First, this happens a lot, so don't feel embarrassed.
Foreplay such as fingering helps. Do this a few times before trying for the actual thing. Also, it helps that you are highly aroused so with lots of foreplay you will be moist and more open for insertion.
Also, one issue could be nerves because it's the first time and also because it probably hurts, so make sure the both of you are very relaxed and go very slowly. Hope this helps!

My grandfather was a gynecologist. He said this happens often enough that the procedure, a simple one done in the office, is fairly routine. In times gone by, many young women had this done a few weeks before they married.

Are you sure his aim is correct? Try helping him out by guiding him with your hands or showing him with a finger where the hole is.
Otherwise, yes. You can break your hymen with a tampon or by masturbating, etc. I would suggest trying these methods BEFORE opting for the surgery. Unnessicary surgery is never a good thing.

Is that possible? I thought it was only a thin piece of skin.
Maybe you just aren't relaxed enough and your muscles are tense, or you are too dry.
Go to see the nurse at your doctors surgery and maybe she will do a quick examination for you.

You can see a gynecologist and they can treat the problem (hymenotomy).
Chances are that it's not completely impenetrable though. You do get your period right?

it's a simple enough procedure by your gynecologist, he uses a scalpel and cuts your hymen, doesn't even hurt.
