Formatting an IDE drive locks out bad sectors. If you are showing bad sectors now it is very possible that the drive is failing. To answer your question, however, at a dos prompt type the following chkdsk c: /f Note the space between the k and the C: plus between the C: and the /f. You will be told that it cannot be done now and do you want to run chkdsk on the next boot - yes you do and reboot.
