As you can see, everyone has a different opinion. There are so many different styles of drumming, I think you would have to narrow down the parameters. I would say Neil Peart, Jon Bonham, Gene Krupa, Keith Moon, and Mickey Hart are some of the best. From the answers above, I would say only Danny Carey can hold a candle to the guys I've listed.

George Kollias of Nile
Martin Lopez, used to play for Opeth
They are all incredible, well rounded drummers.

Neil Peart from Rush. They are out of Canada. A three piece band, which forces everyone to be musical. Just listen to his solo during YYZ on "Exit, Stage Left".
