I personally would prefer to have a cat. I am the quiet type of person who would prefer an animal who is independent and doesn't demand too much attention. In my opinion, dogs tend to be too energetic at times and I am a very busy being. I am a lawyer so I like quiet in my home and a cat serves my purpose. I am also single so a cat is just the animal for me: one who could cuddle up with me in bed. The smaller dogs are not in my interest and the big ones are very rowdish. I think it's because I'm a lawyer that I prefer cats. But when I was younger I had wanted a dog. I guess that energy levels play a great deal in what pet you get.

Cat
Cats are more independant, you don't have to let them out, but you do have to clean a litterbox. You can be gone for the day and leave the cat in the house without worries, but you might have to clean the house up if a dog stayed in all day. I don't have to worry about mice in the house with a cat. I like dogs, but I prefer cats.

I have a dog but I thinkt that I would rather have a cat because cats seem to be more mellow and relaxed than my dog is. Don't get me wrong... I love my dog and he's a big ball of energy, but sometimes I would prefer to have something that was a little more calm.

I prefer to have a dog because you can play with them and take them for a walk. Cats run away at times or run into the street.

I have a little 5lb Maltese dog macho. There is not a cat in the world that could replace him He is sitting on my lap as I type out this answer. Dogs really are great companions. My sister-in-law has a cat. Every time she is in my home she tells me her cat would rather be in the closet than with her.
What kind of pet is that?

Both, cause I like to watch them fight. But a small dog is best, it makes for a more fair fight against a cat. Just kidding, my cat and dog play all the time and it's pretty funny to watch.

I would prefer a dog. Cats are dangerous to humans:

Both. Our 17 year old cat died a year ago this past Halloween. Now it's just our wonderful dog. He is a big dog and 8 years old now. When he passes that is it for us. I swear, It's so sorrow full when we lost our other dog and the cat. My heart was broken a little both times. I'm getting to old for this crap so....... hence no more pets.
