For AP English I have to read a play post-1945 and compare its tragic elements to that of the ancient greek tradegies. I'm not worried about that part. I'm not well-versed on modern plays, and need some reccommendations on ones that I would find interesting (being an 18 year old male). I like thought-provoking plays, really anything that's unique and interesting. For example, my favorite books are Native Son and The Catcher in the Rye, if that helps. Thanks.

A Man for All Seasons or Dylan come to mind. Beckett or Royal Hunt of the Sun or Amadeus are also modern Tragedies.

In reference to one of the answers posted, he suggested Death of a Salesman, which is my recommendation as well. Arthur Miller became famous with this play, based on disillusionment with the American Dream, pursued regardless of the cost to one's character. Willie Lohman is a tragic figure.

Aristotle characterizes tragedy as the downfall of a great man, whether through a flaw in his character or a mistake he has made.

Willie Lohman, though not a great man, meets his downfall through a character flaw.
