I got up early to come to the hospital to be with my mom, and I spilled my [delicious] coffee all over my car hood. Then I just got coffee at the cafe downstairs, and I swear to heaven above that it tastes like menthol. Yuck. I can't believe I paid .85 cents for this crap! Blech.

So my question: Don't you hate bad tasting coffee?

Thanks Long Live the Dream... we don't really know what's wrong with her [my mom]. She's just really ill, and since we don't know why, we also don't know when she'll get out.

Que Otro Hay... I totally agree. Good coffee is out there.

Sure do. Nothing puts the poops on my day more than (slight exaggeration, but, you know) going for that first steaming hot baby sip with just enough smooth, bite, and rumor of sweet, and having it not deliver, OR WORSE, coffee that has obviously been sitting too long, or is the absolute bottom of the urn.

I'm actually so bad that I have self approved places to get coffee, and anything else I will not even attempt. I'm not even into snooty coffee! For instance, I really do not like Starbucks Coffee, although, I have been known to insist upon a LARGE COFFEE, just to watch the righteous indignation of the server as they try to get me to speak their fictitious Euro-esque baloney. I mean, I understand company loyalty, but it's a fast food chain! Helloo-ooo!

How about some convenience brands where you can actually taste the syrup that has somehow been impregnated into the grounds, and tastes like over-syruped ick.

Yes, I've finally taken to commandeering the company coffeemaker and coffee-purchasing duties. Only one other fellow associate has brewing rights, though all may drink. So now, I am guaranteed to have a satisfying coffee experience, every morning. Now if I could just get home office to stop sending me rush orders after shipping has closed for the day, I'd be all set.

Hope your mom feels better.

I don't drink it anymore. But my dad drinks a ton! I saw this piece on TV once about coffee and what makes a bad cup, so bad. In a word, quakers. I'm not talking about the religious group. When coffee beans a picked some are bad, old, shriveled, etc when they're picked. The roasting process makes them worse. These "bad coffee beans" are called quakers. Not sure why they're called that. So the more quakers there are in a container, the more bitter it tastes. They can be sorted out, however that costs money as it is labor intensive. So the cheap coffee is going to taste cheap because the company that produced it didn't put forth a lot of labor to sort out the quakers. The expensive stuff is usually your best bet as the company usually has people to sort through and pick out the quakers. The TV program said that $$$$ coffee is usually good coffee, but not always, and that whole beans are better than pre-ground because you can at least sort through the beans yourself before you grind them. They did make a pot of coffee with just the quakers and said that it was so bitter and had such a horrible look and smell that it took a while for people to gear up to actually taste it and when they did, they wished they hadn't.

Of course. I LOVE coffee that's put together just right, especially since I drink it black. I don't always get it right.... sometimes it's a bit bitter or worse, a little weak.

Burger King's "Joe" usually gets it right. The BEST coffee I've had consistently comes from places where Indian people make it.... even the gas stations operated by them. I don't know how they do it, but 99.999 % of the coffee I buy in a place where they make it is rich yet smooth and not a tinge of bitterness.

For sure. The last place I buy coffee is McDonalds. Many people seem to like it, to me it has a burned taste and I know I'll have a bowel movement in a couple hours. It's gross.

Hate is an awfully strong word but yes, I really don't like yukky coffee. I usually order hot water and make tea. Safer. If your looking for the jolt, put two tea bags in of black tea and you'll be set. Hope your Mother is well.
