them yet because she hasn't stared at them in amazement. I think its possible that she could discover them without doing that, but how do I know if she has dicovered her hands and feet, or if sucking on her hands and grabing her feet is an uncounciouse thing.

She is 16 weeks. If she hasn't discovered them yet, should I be concerned.

Lottie. I LOVE MY MOTHER IN LAW VERY MUCH AND HAVE NOT INTENTION OF RUBBING HER FACE IN ANYTHING. I just wanted to know because I am new to this mother thing and I wasn't sure. She and I are very close, and I am trying to find a house closer to her (how many daughters in law do that). I must saying that I think she may be incorrect. I don't feel the need to say anything to her about it. You sound like a very judgemental person. Maybe you ask questions so you can so you can prove you are right and be rude and mean, but you don't know me.

I think your mother-in-law is wrong about this one.

Think about it:

What are the odds of your being able to catch your daughter's expression as she suddenly discovers her feet or hands and looks at them in amazement? Is this amazing discovery something that can occur over and over (they say geese wake up in a new world every day, implying that they don't seem to retain much information for very long, but BABIES??) so you have a real good chance of seeing it?

And what is a look of amazement in a baby, anyway? Seems to me that they OFTEN look REALLY amazed but it is more an attempt to focus than it is a look of astonishment.

I think your daughter has definitely discovered her feet and her hands.

My son has been messing with his feet and hands since he was about 8 weeks old, but there was a point at around 6-7 months where he realized they were there, that he could control them, and that they were amazing.

There really is a difference. Some kids never go through it very noticeably, but others do.

I know for my son it was true.

your mother-in-law sounds weird. (no offence) Of corse your sweet baby has discovered her her hands and feet. At least that is what I believe.

Who cares?
You want to be right or happy?
Happy says: isn't that wonderful! Here get the camera.
Right says: I have to look this up to show that cow I know what I am talking about.
Share in the wonder that is your baby. let your mother-in-law love to be a grandmother. Let her know things you don't know. Let her be wrong without correcting her.
Use everything in your life to enjoy life with.

Looks like this book says they discover their hands at about 3 months of age.
Depends on what you mean by "discovery"...she obviously knows they're there and has fun playing with them, but does she know they belong to her, are part of her, and that she can control them?
