I'm not a devout Catholic or anything, but what's happened to all the good old fashioned, popular, nice names? Some people now should be ashamed of the crap they named their children. I miss names like Mary, Elizabeth, Jane, Daniel, David, etc.

Well, they don't have to have over used names, but they don't need these crazy, unpronoucneable names.

(Forgive me for my spelling)

My husband and I agree with you! We want to name our kids normal names that dont get mispronounced and pre-judge them!

The names that are considered "normal" change with each generation. Names like Caden and Jayden were almost unheard of a few years ago but they are so popular now that in a few years time people will be asking where all the "normal" names like Caden and Jayden went. We are also more influenced by other cultures and more individual than in the past.

People want their children to have some individuality. Think about how many people that you know named Mary, Elizabeth, Daniel and David.... Talk to them and see how they liked to be called Mary R. or Daniel B. all of their lives because there was also a Daniel J. or a Mary S.

I think people are trying too hard to sound creative and 'unique' now. They aren't thinking about how it would be to have a ridiculous name like Nevaeh, Zirkonia, or Zayden. I can't imagine a Doctor Zirkonia, or a CEO named Zayden. So silly!

I'm not a huge fan of very common, older names like Mary or David, but I do like more unusual older names, like Eleanor, Theodore, Daphne, and Sebastian. They probably won't be Theo J. in school, but people will know how to say their names.

Well I just had a baby 4 weeks ago, and I named her Elizabeth Riley. Elizabeth is my middle name and the only name that my husband and I could agree on. I call her Izzie for short.

Some people want to give their kids a distinction and WOW do they ever !! I drive for a transportation service and one day I picked up a kid named "Pushpin". At first I thought he was joking and was ready to put my sense of humor into effect. But then I heard his mother yell, "See you when you get back, Pushpin".

I miss the old fashioned names also. (An old girlfriend's name was Donna Marie; such a sweet rhythym!!)

Amen to that. I agree 100% with you.

A friend of mine had her daughter four years ago and till this day I have no idea how to pronounce that kid's name never mind how to spell it. All I know its a combination of the mother's and the father's names.

Good question.

Many cultures now in the US by their choice or not - like African slaves - are using names from their culture.

Others make them up or name babies after cartoon characters. Go figure. In the end it will not matter. Our planet is doomed no matter what your name is.

u know, its funny. everyone is busy trying to find a complex and unique baby name, because they think that every kid is named common names ( like those that u mentioned ) when in reality, those names have become unique since no one names their kids that anymore. and why? because they want "unique" names. it's time to use reverse psychology people! lol.
