I can offer you several monologues I wrote that match what you are looking for. All of them are in stage plays that have been produced which be read and printed out for free at www.geocities.com/absaroka2001. All of the monologues have no set interpretation and can be portrayed by men or women.

In the stage play "Faces In The Raft", refugees from different time periods build a raft they create from the ruins of an abandoned building and their dead to flee across a river rather than be trapped because of a ruined bridge. Based upon what you're looking for I recommend, "The Room" and "The Fading" in this script.

In the stage play "Voices From The Cafe", refugees from different time periods rebuild a bridge necessary for their community's survival after being provided a place to speak of their experiences beyond the bridge. Based upon what you're looking for, I recommend "The Journey" and "The Awakening" in this script. In "The Awakening", the narrator refers to their spouse, but any relationship could be substituted.

Links to both scripts will be found by searching for the stage play names on Google or Yahoo.

I have had excellent luck with a book called "The Modern Monologue" (the women's version). I believe the "author" or complier may be Philipa Kiel, although I am not entirely sure on this. There are also two other books by the same "author", "The Contemporary Monologue" and "The Classical Monologue". I have used monolouges from "The Modern Monologue" for competition, and done well. They monologues are all from published plays, and there are notes on the scene for each one. I've never taken an official drama class, although I have been involved in my high school theatre, both as a techie and an actor. I liked the notes on the scene and the character in these books. I bought my copy at Barnes and Noble. My local library didn't have it, but that's not to say yours won't. I've also tried looking online for monologues. Google, "monologues from published plays" or some variation thereof, and you should get some results. Just make sure you can verify they're from a published play. Break a leg, and have fun!

4 minutes is long! Try to piece something together from different monologues in 'Night Mother by Marsha Norman. There's a really chilling one at the end given by the mother as she's trying to stop her daughter from killing herself (which she actually does during the monologue) but it's not 4 minutes...

Google "Shakespeare female monologues" and pick something. Those are always excellent.
