My office's christmas party is this Friday. I don't really want to go, it is usually boring. I am the kind that does not socialize much at work, I tend to keep business and pleasure separate. However, people have been telling me that it is good to show up for a little while. I really don't want to.
So, who goes to their parties and who skips and why?

To Rita D.: I get a check every two weeks for my work, they are paying for my services. The main problem I have with office parties, functions, etc. etc. is that you are made to feel obligated.

I hated going to but it was considered almost an insult to the company not to go (who knows why). It is better to go even just for the cocktail hour just to show your face and mingle a bit.

As the planner for our office holiday party it irks me when people don't attend. We go out of our way to make sure we appreciate you as an employee. The least you could do is show up and appreciate your employer for giving you a check every week/2 weeks.
Well, then when your company doesn't offer extra perks everyone complains. So the company should just crap on everyone all year round and not do anything nice for their employees... Is this what people want???
Just remember there are plenty of people out ther with no jobs that would love to go to a Holdiay party because want to have a job.

depending on your work environment & position, understand that many times office social events really are "work" and NOT to attend them can be politically damaging in some organizations. maybe its a relic of the "old boys club" but something to keep in mind as you decide whether to go..

Buy some of those crunchy type (hard) bread sticks, and wrap a piece of bacon around it, then roll in brown sugar, and bake at 350 until crispy. MMMM GOOD

I think you should go. It will give you a chance to get to know and bond with your co-workers on a different level. Also, you may be surprised to find that it might actually be fun!
