nobody knows, either you would reach the end of matter [galaxies etc] and beyond that just emptiness, or you might end up arriving back at the point where you started from....i dont believe space is 'straight' and not even light travels in straight lines.....so i prefer the theory that you would travel in a curved path and come back to meet yourself ;)....which reminds me of something someone wrote after einsteins relativity theory...

there once was a woman named bright
who travelled much faster than light
she set out one day in the relative way
and returned on the previous night

whilst i grow to be a young person (i'm now sixty 4 years old! ;-) I undergo in ideas thinking regarding the "fringe of area" and whilst examining regarding the enormous Bang, i could no longer comprehend why a million/2 of the sky grow to be no longer black. area could have a midsection from which we expand and in that direction ... there could be no longer something, top? Then sooner or later I understood with this metaphor: think of you're a fish swimming contained in the sea of a planet without continents. anyplace you're, you will continuously be on the midsection of the sea, top? Likewise we can in basic terms word the universe in the two area and time and the previous is a sphere around us! anyplace you're, you notice the universe as being at its midsection. even though it does not have a midsection nor an ingredient. We purely can't have a cartesian representation of the universe. evaluate this: you have quite seen drawing of the increasing universe as a cone the place the summit is the enormous bang, top? i be attentive to propose yet another drawing the place we are on the midsection of a sphere and its floor is the enormous bang! Which drawing is right? properly, they are the two superb. We purely can't draw on slightly paper area-time. definite, the universe would - and specific is - bigger than what we can see. it is referred to as the universe horizon. There are 2 of those, the previous and the destiny one. The previous horizon is approximately issues that have moved removed from us so rapid, because of the growth, that its easy does not attain us anymore. the destiny horizon is approximately easy that hasn't reached us yet.

there may be an end or edge of space as scientists years ago sent out a signal into space which acts like a ripple in a pond if a stone is dropped in it.

It is said that the ripples over time have got bigger and slower hence coming to an end/edge.

I heard this theory on TV and was hard to understand at first but quite a simply concept.

They said if there was no edge/end then the ripples/signal would of carried on at the same speed and size.

Although the universe is finite, it doesn't have an edge as such. If you set out on a journey to find it, you would just end up back where you started.

This is because, as Stephen Hawking put it, the universe is "finite yet boundless" because space-time is curved.

It's the same as trying to get to the edge of the Earth - you can't. But this isn't because Earth is of an infinite size, it's because it curves.

With our current state of knowledge, any of these possibilities are a fair bet!

Seriously though, assuming that our current observations are accurate, and that our interpretations and theories are correct even if largely incomplete, it would appear that we would just keep going. The observable universe is remarkably flat. The postulated curvature, if it exists, is present outside of the volume of the universe that is currently within our observational reach. Yep the universe is a huge place and what we can see is only a tiny fraction of what is potentially there.

Don't try it though. You'll only get old, and there's better things to do with your life here on this world!

The edge of space i think its rounded.most things are rounded in all the millions of systems we have You travel to the edge and you come back round where you started.

what are you talking about the edge of what has been created by the big bang or the actual edge of space
maybe a big Squeeze HAHA

i was flicking through some of these questions when i found this link, it told my that if i travelled for 15 Billion years i would be at the edge of visible space, what it would be once i got there, iwouldn't have a clue

anyway the link http://www.krysstal.com/scale.html

I don't know, and there is nobody here on Earth who can claim to know.
First of all, we don't know where the edge of space is, or even if there is an edge.
Secondly, even if there was, and we knew where it was, we don't have the technology to get there, nor are we ever likely to have the technology.

You would get to the point where all the stars are behind you and it would be totally dark in front of you. My personal expectation is that you would find a wall of dark matter, all of the dark matter that they have been looking for these past few years.

So everybody says space never ends well i reckon it has to end as we know it ....what was there before the supposed big bang...nothing that we know of...it has to expand into something so it must have some sort of edge
