My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years and lived together for the last 1.5 years (we bought a house). We also have 3 dogs that we think of as our babies...lol.. We've survived hard times and have become closer from them, but we have never broken up and rarely do we fight. We are a very open couple. We talk about marriage very often, including the type of ring that I want. I told him that I want a CZ ring, but he would like to get me diamonds. He has been picking up many extra shifts lately, but I'm trying not to be presumptious. (he also has a lot of debt that he wants to pay off) We just had our 1st vacation, 3 yr anniversary, and now xmas is coming up. He told me on our 3 year anniversaty that he won't propose on an obvious day because it wouldn't be a suprise....but I keep getting dissapointed each holiday! He keeps getting more lovey. Do you think it will happen soon? Weare very open and I told him I want to be engaged by 4 yrs. He told me we would be engaged soon?

To Clarify...I didn't mean do you think I'll get engaged on xmas, but around that time perhaps a few days before or something like that...thats all!

Regarding his debt, it is going to take him about 3 to 3.5 years to pay it off.

If he said you'll be getting married soon, then just try not to worry about the timing of it all. It'll happen soon enough, so just try to be patient. I know it's hard, and I bet 100 things are running through your mind. But it'll work out.

According to you, he said he wouldn't propose on an obvious day, right? Well, if you're wondering about Christmas, that might be obvious, don't you think? He sounds as though he's very responsible and wants to get things in order before proposing. Still, there's nothing wrong in you letting him know how much time you two have invested in each other. I think your "deadline" of four years is a good one. You may have to let him know that marriage is for better or worse, and things don't have to be perfect in order for you two to get married.

Good Luck!

Why do you women start a relationship, and tell the guy you want to be married in a certain amount of time? How would you like it if he said he want to get laid by the 2nd date? He already said he won't propose on an obvious day because it wouldn't be a surprise! Isn't Christmas an obvious day?

Enjoy the anticipation. When I got engaged, I knew all the details. My Fiance at the time ask my dad for my hand in marriage when I was in the next room. I heard it all, knew what he was planning and I knew about the ring...When the moment came, I still cried.

No. I think he's trying to pay off debts. But it will probably be soon after that.

Don't rush him. He may think thats all you want. Just be patient. When he has the money he will. Just don't talk about it anymore.
