I don't believe in killing whales but I don't think it's fair to solely blame the Japanese for the low whale count in the oceans. When Japanese hunts whales, they utilize every single part of the whale. They also regulate hunting the number of whales whereas the many other countries that used to hunt whales did it in great numbers and only for certain parts. Of course the whale population will dwindle. Perhaps the countries that had anything to do with any past whaling should start donating to the saving the whale foundation to do research on how to make their population grow and to preserve the whales. I mean, is stopping whaling a forever thing? What if there are too many whales and the fish supply dwindles? Is it ok to start whaling again?

Japan has a pretty rich economy so i highly doubt they're doing it only for profit. They really dont have much food over there, most of it is imported while the rest is either seafood or grains. Theres not much that can be done from sitting at your computer to save them, especially since the Japanese could care less what North Americans have to say unless it has to do with trade. I'm down for saving the whales too but maybe you should get a little more research on it before jumping head first
Also (EDIT) we kill thousands of animals every day, just because they arent endangered doesnt mean its right or wrong. Whether its part of tradition or its just for food we cant just jump in and say "stop doing that" when we've wiped out tons of species on our own. Also i'm pretty sure we've killed human beings as well (caugh caugh, war) so...yeah

The Japanese whale harvesters are NOT using a loophole. They were given permission to harvest a certain number of certain species of whale. So, get your facts together before scamming people.
I am a wildlife manager. I know the people monitoring whale populations agree that certain number of certain species could be harvest. The majority of whales are protected by an alliance of countries. However, there are countries, that are not members and will harvest what they please. I agree with managing any wildlife populations responsibly. So, far this seems to be case.
People have a right to live their life the way they choose. Nobody has the right to take this away from people. Bashing and insulting does nothing but make matters worse. Attacking them while at sea is a violation of international law. Those who feel justified in attacking a group of people different than you, of a different culture and society, are nothing but racist bigots.

While a noble gesture, we don't have a say in Japanese government policies. So while no Japanese will be killing whales in US waters, hopefully the Japanes will one day realize that this is not right and if not imposing an outright ban, at least they'll put restrictions on when, where and how this practice is done.
Realize there are some areas that whale killing and production of its byproducts are the Japanese's only source of income/way to make a living and without it these areas while die off.

Actually, that's not true at all, the ESA lists 10 whale species as endangered.

Whale hunting is part of Japanese heritage. It is also part of some Native American's. The line is drawn in the fact that the Natives are no longer permitted to hunt whale except for a handful of ceremonies allowed once a year. It is not fair to the Native Americans that the Japanese are hunting it still. Oh yeah, its not fair to the whales either because they are endangered. lol

No, the whale is a very intelligent creature that has a place in the environment which I don't think means it should be used as food, oil, or anything else that kills this complex creature.

i hate captain ahab for killing whales. save the whales as is save the males. japan has an unnatural craving for the meat of the whale. it is a bad tradition. more whales would be wonderful.
but they will never change. maybe if we built more mcdonald's over their and more pizza inns we could influence their appetite for whale meat. hopeless, i guess. and, too, we have bigger fish to fry in the homeland. the sob congressmen are trying to slip the "special war funding" bill through and have $200 BILLON tacked on for their re-election efforts. its not about whales today, it is about the scuzzy Congress.

This has always horrified me.They way it is done just seems so brutal. Clubbing seals is another thing I just can't stand!
It is a sick sport - start playing basket ball or something
There is a difference between whales & chickens.
I am not a big fan of any type of meat.
