Or for that matter, what happened to "hey ,friend"?

Could it be that the insult lies in the fact that these people are being "too familiar" as Stacy pointed out?

I don't like to be called "Madam"

"Honey" can be ok or not, depending on who is using it. Most of the times, it sounds condescendent, so I don't like it.

Hey, friend! I do agree with the familiarity thing - doesn't that breed contempt? I don't have too many names that bother me, and they've already been listed. Being called "Honey" or rather, "Hon" by an older woman is something that has bothered me over the years, because of one person. We honestly could not stand each other. Water under the bridge, though.

I don't know. Honestly the only ones that REALLY insult me are the really vulgar ones. Whore, slut, etc. No one ever calls me that, because even at my worse, I have never been those things.
I'm from the south. Honey, sweetheart, hun...none of that bothers me. If you want to think me a brainless idiot, hey all the worse for you, because I am about to con you into doing all the things I can't stand, ie changing my oil, changing my windsheild wipers and any car work in general. I'm failing to see how I loose.....

My 4 year old likes to say pookie head. I don't know why, but it bothers me. Even when she calls her self that.

I used to hate it when my dad called me booger. I got mad a guy who called me Stevie like Stevie Nicks. I hope he hates it when I call him 'looser magician wanna-be who cant even get a good tip at the tables'.

Yes, I think that Stacy's point is right on the money-g-spot. I didn't want that guy to think he had any sort of friendship rights to call me anything but my first and correct name. Except with pookie head. My baby girl and I play lots of name games and she can make up names for me, just not pookie head.

If it's someone that doesn't know me very well, Angie. I hate that name. Only a few people have permission to call me that, and from them, I don't mind at all.

And there's another cutesy one I hate, but I can't remember right off the top of my head.

Oh yeah. Girlie. I despise that. I also think it's weird when people say "Yes Ma'am" to me. But that could just be my age.

I find my old name insulting 'Natasha'. I'm not that person anymore...that's no longer my name...I'm trying to leave that whole section of my life behind. So to be called by it is highly irritating. I hate it when I introduce myself as 'Tash' and still get called 'Natasha'. It makes me very cranky.

As for other insulting names...well insulting names usually roll of my back (except for the use of my name) unless the person who says them matters to me.

But if I'm in a situation where the person should be showing respect, names that are too familar get under my skin. I think I'd scream if I got called 'Bub' lol

The guy at Auto Zone calls me Sweetheart every time I have to go in there for something my husband needs. I hate it! I am not your sweetheart. I am not 16 either. I guess he thinks because he knows my husband from him being a long time customer that he knows me. IDK. I just want to punch him in the mouth.

I think it is so disrespectful when I see people calling elderly Hun or Sugar. I worked with a girl that did this and it just grated my nerves.

Also, If you want a fight just call my hubby a Cracker. That pisses him off more that anything.

I've never been called any of those and no one calls me anything I find insulting. I will say I am uncomfortable being called "Ma'am" , I don't know why I just am. Most of the time people just call me what I am: lab-rat.

Not sure why this bugs me but there is a girl in my office who will say "girl" when addressing me, among others, drives me insane.
I also hate when someone calls me hon or babe, excluding my hubby, of course ;) But even he doesn't say those, closes he gets is "babes"
