The word Omega means the end.
The Alpha male darkseaker moved Fred right in front of that dark area. Will Smith's character made an inaccurate assessment of the darkseakers. They still had human reasoning and problem solving skills. He (the alpha male darkseaker) knew that Will Smith was out there and had probably been observing him for a while. He created a trap, to catch his dinner.

Remember the line from the Bible, "I am the Alpha and the Omega. The Beginning and the End"? Omega is the last letter of the Greek Alphabet - the language the compiled Bible was first written in. That's where "The Omega Man" title came from.
