hi all, i am on 2nd month of 50mg clomid and 500mg metformin 3x daily. I have pcos and I did ovulate on the 1st round of clomid but got my period. My question is, my gyno who put me on clomid didnt out me on metformin b/c she said my p levels were good and we would just continue the clomid, well my old dr gave me the metformin and i decided to fill the scrip and take both to up my chances, do u think this was a bad idea? I know i should be following my dr orders, but it seems they just dont understand the importance of my conception soon!! any advice, comments or sucess stories will be appciated.
Thanks

First of all, good luck! I too have PCOS. I got pregnant on 150mg clomid, and 1500mg of Met. I am in my 15th week now. It can happen! It is safe to take together, and I personally think it helps your chances along. Just let her know you decided to take it. If you do become pregnant, it's good to stay on the met for the first 3 months to sustain pregnancy.

Hello,
Im due to start taking my first round of clomid this month, Im just waiting on my period to start which should happen round about xmas day, lucky me!!
Im also taking a form of Metformin called Glucophage which has a slow release ingredient which means I only have to take 3 tables at night time. Its because of this drug that I started ovulating in the first place. They have put me on clomid to increase my chances (been trying to conceive for 2 years on my own). Anyway, there is absalutely no reason why you cant take both together as Ive heard them being prescribed together in many cases.
However, I was told by my doctor to take a pregnancy test every month before starting a cycle of clomid because it could over stimulate your ovaries and cause complications. Was also told to stop taking Glucophage (Metformin) as soon as I was pregnant as it may have unknown side effects and could cause harm to the unborn baby.
I hope this was in some way helpful and I wish you good luck!!!

Clomid is a fertility medication that is used to induce ovulation. Known as clomiphene citrate, the drug is sold under the brand names Clomid and Serophene, and is available throughout the United Kingdom. Specifically, Clomid works to stimulate a woman’s ovaries to mature an increased number of follicles every month. Because Clomid increases the number of mature follicles in the ovaries, the drug also increases the likelihood of ovulation and pregnancy.
How Does Clomid Work?
Clomid works by acting on a number of different receptors in the body that regulate hormone production and release. In particular, Clomid works to increase the amount of three hormones involved in the ovulation process, including:
* gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)
* luteinizing hormone (LH)
* follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
Clomid essentially tricks the body into believing that it has lowered levels of estrogen. As a result, the brain begins to secrete increased levels of GnRH, which, in turn, stimulates the release of FSH and LH. These hormones then trigger the ovaries to begin to mature more follicles.

do as your gyno says, not your dr these drugs and given for a reason, stick to the clomid, give it a chance, I understand completely, I also have PCO and had to take clomid, starting taking in February and conceived in April, but it does differ for other people, but you have to take these drugs properly, it is so frustrating not to conceive in the first few months of taking these drugs, but give your body a chance, and hopefully it will work for you,

I think it's fine, however, the next time that speak to her ask her about metformin again. If she says no, then ask if there would be any adverse effects to taking the two drugs. If she says yes, then stop taking the Met, but if she says no, then tell her that you would like to take both, just to increase your chances.
Good luck hun!
Baby dust to us both!

i'm sorry to pay attention approximately your concern conceiving. i replaced into additionally on clomid, metformin and prednisone (the 1st 2 on my own did not artwork to make my ovulate) to conceive. Folic acid takes as much as 3 months to be correct absorbed into your physique so which you would be able to correct supply it on your embryo. i comprehend it replaced into cautioned to me to start taking prenatals until eventually now I even began attempting to conceive and to proceed them no rely what befell each and each cycle. i comprehend prenatal supplements could be somewhat perplexing on your gadget and in case you devour nicely, you need to in all risk escape with merely taking a folic acid supplement. the two way, you need to be taking one or the different to cut back your probabilities of having a baby with neural tube defects. i think of you need to in all risk call your medical doctors workplace and spot which one he/she could want you're taking.
