Obviously, people are all different.

But imagine that all you know about someone is that they are a masculinist. You have never seen them, met them or talked to them.

What mental picture do you have of that person, if any?

You mean a balding, pidgeon-toed, knock-kneed, beer gut, unshaven, schooner-in-one-hand and remote-in-the-other kind of guy?

Just kidding! :-D

Actually, although masculism provides a general critique of social relations, many of its active proponents also seek to analyze gender inequality and promote men's rights, interests, and issues. [Wikipedia] This seem to basically refer to "anti-feminists", those who want to maintain the status quo of an unequal and unfair social structure between the sexes. They are almost the same as chauvenists, but with one main difference. Chauvenists believe that they are superior to the opporsite sex; anti-feminists merely want to maintain the inequality, regardless of which (if either) sex they think to be superior.

In a nutshell: masculinists are really giving a social critique on inequality between the sexes. Just like the feminists, only from the male perspective. Feminists promote feminine issues, masculinists promote male issues. It's a balancing act that helps to achieve and maintain social equality.

Well, I've never met anyone in real life who describes themselves as a masculinist. But, from my experience here, I've concluded that there are two types of guys here who usually call themselves masculinists:

1. Men who believe that men and women are equal and that they should have equality. These men are very decent people and are actually feminists, but they have formed incorrect assumptions about feminism and assume feminism is "evil", so they made their own little group. Hopefully these men can be reeducated and we can all work together. It's so silly to have two different groups who oppose each other but are fighting for the same things.

2. Men who are misogynists and use "masculinism" as a front in the hopes of one day making some sort of convoluted attempt at somehow hopefully oppressing women again, "putting us in our place". They believe men are superior.

So, if I heard that someone was a masculinist, I wouldn't really be able to make any assumptions about them, because both types of masulinists are so different.

I would like to answer this, but the only exposure I've had to masculinists is here on this forum, and I'm not entirely sure that the mental picture I've got from the masculinists here is the best example of a masculinist. I really have never (outside this forum) came across a masculinist. I guess I would picture someone who is a traditionalist, someone who believes that the changes society has seen in the last fifty years or so are harmful. I picture someone who wants a return to traditional gender roles. Someone who believes that women have already achieved equality, and that they want more than equality, they want superiority. In other words, I picture someone who has a very negative view of feminism.

I like this question, because it shows the general disgust for men and men having rights(it does go against supremacy, doesn't it) in the general feminist population(at least on Y!A).
But then they ask questions why people are against feminism, and why men are so idiotic, that they think that all women think men are pigs.

I'm going to save this question for the next time someone say 'feminism is about equality', or why do men think feminists hate men, or...

The archetype of the masculist as seen on GWS is a man who complains that women are overly advantaged; men are getting the short end of the stick in all walks of life; nobody cares about them; and feminism, in all its forms, is a horrible mistake.

The archetype of the masculist as seen in reality is a man who complains of certain disadvantages that men have and attempts to reach out to feminists in an effort to resolve them.

The only thing I could possibly conjecture about a Masculinist is that they are a member of Yahoo!Answers G&WS section, because this is the only place I've ever come across any.

Other than that, no idea.

Cheers :-)

Ive never met one before but I imagine one of two things: an angry, bitter little man who's pretty unattractive and has a bad attitude; or a complete alpha male that you don't really want to like but can't seem to keep yourself from liking and finding attractive. Mostly the former though.

I've never met one either. Hard to say.
I guess I would assume that this person is a man, as women tend to be more concerned w/ women's rights and men with men's rights.

Like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny: imaginary.

Outside of here, I've never met one. And the ones I've "met" here, assuming they're not just pulling our chains (which is okay) are nasty, ugly, angry, narrow-minded little fellas who can only parrot what's on the websites of their heroes (who are also nasty, ugly, etc.). I certainly hope they're not all like that, or their movement is in trouble.

Like Tracey, I've never met one in real life. The only ones I've encountered are the ones on GWS and I'd rather not say what my assumptions are since I'm trying to be nice given that it's the holiday season and all...
