Obviously, people are all different.

But imagine that all you know about someone is that they are a feminist. You have never seen them, met them or talked to them.

What mental picture do you have of that person, if any?

Mental picture: this person is someone who is confident and secure- she knows who she is, she knows she has value, she is aware of and respects human rights. She's not a racist, not a bigot, she is unprejudiced, non-discriminatory, she has empathy for others. She understands that inequality is something best corrected through peaceful, non-violent means. She's likely to be someone who fosters a humanitarian attitude and empathy for others in her own children. She is aware of society's expectations, and she is unafraid to break harmful stereotypes. She is not selfish, she considers her choices (and their impact on others) very carefully. She models what she believes in, and is brave enough to take a stand against what she sees as harmful.

(By the way, even though I used the word "she" here, this person may just as well be a "he.")

I don't have any stereotypical images of a feminist, since core feminist values are to promote equal rights for both genders. It could be anyone anywhere. I would consider myself a feminist or human rights advocate. I use the words interchangeably. Discrimination is often masked behind labels.

Take care.

No mental "picture" as such, but I would expect someone who's confident and not particularly afraid to speak her mind (although not necessarily without tact.) After all, if one openly believes in something that isn't accepted by the mainstream of society, then one needs to be a little more confident in him/herself and his/her beliefs.

I would assume it was a woman as well, that's the only assumption I could make.

I would assume they were female. Other than that, I wouldn't have any other assumptions to make.

Hmm, since I've known both male and female feminists, the only assumption I'd make is that they're human and probably from a western country.

Women hate men. In my job all the women are in power and are so inverted they are unable to be effiecient. Now as Spider man says "With Great power comes great responsability"

The only defining characteristic I could suggest is that a feminist thinks about things that matter in the world.

Other than that, as you say ~ everyone is different.

Cheers :-)

Someone with a pulse. Yet to meet anyone that doesn't want women to vote or have their own choice (work vs kitchen).
