Being there as opposed to being elsewhere.

If you have a kid and stay home to help / watch / guide the kid, you are way ahead of the game when compared to the schmucks who go out and party all night leaving the kid in the hands of some babysitter - or worse, alone.

Not meant to malign babysitters because for an occasional outing, they are good. But I'm talking about going out every week, at least 3 or 4 nights a week. That tells the kid that s/he is less important than the parents having a good time. What kind of message is THAT?

Parents who are THERE to watch the kids, who make it clear that they will be aware of what is going on - those are the most powerful, strongest parental control system in the world.

Do you mean birth control method? Then the answer is education. Especially education for women (sorry men do not have the babies). When the woman is educated she becomes free to see other possible futures and make wise decisions as to the number of children she wants to have.

Sorry that is the only reason I can see for it being here. If you are talking about parental control of what the children do then give the answer to the one who said being there.

Physical superiority, misinformation, and fear.

Actually, that works on anybody, not just your kids.
