I had Avast antivirus but decided to change to AVG and try it out. When I set it up I noticed I couldn't watch online movie trailers without it cutting in and out. I went to Broadband Speed Test page and I noticed that AVG cut my ping time down from 1.5 GPS to 450 kbps. Just to make sure that AVG was the problem I exited out of AVG and tested several times and each time I tested without AVG my ping would go way back up to 1.5 to 2 GPS. Im back with AVAST now and my ping stays 1.5 to 2 GPS. If anyone else tries this let me know how yours did

Get rid of AVG - it's full of bugs. Just look at their forum and FAQs

I have avg 7.5 and it slowed it down when you started the computer only...but than someone told me to make sure it does not download all the time and you can set the time to do stuff...however when like now if I am typing it will say loading info and then it stops you from what you are doing and then it does a countdown and then all is fine...annoying as hec...but so far I have been okay with the speed of things...it is always running something in the backround that is where we fiddled around with...not sure if it will help you here...but it is good software...so far nothing bad has come on my computer...and it is better than NORTON by far.

I removed a purchased AVG antispyware for the very same reason. Used up to much of my resources. (Not that I care as I have max. resources). Was not finding spyware. I installed, Superantispyware free for personal use and finds what all other miss or unable to fix. http://www.superantispyware.com Plus you will get auto. updates every day.

I don't know why it does this, but it did it to me too. It keeps slowing down my already slow computer too.
