But I just found his gift and a really sweet card for me in his desk - not snooping, putting some files there he will need when he comes by the office this evening after I am gone - d/t patient confidentiality can't leave them on top of his desk.
I have literally zero extra money to work with right now, so it's gotta be cheap - yet not smack of cheap.
He's an introvert, coin collecter, movie buff, already has it all type of guy. Not outdoorsy, but is kind of a foodie. HELP! I need ideas and quick!
Thanks in advance.

He's a psychiatrist, so dinner is out - they can be weird dinner partners - and taking him to dinner is out of my budget unless we go fast food - which he does not eat.
He has also sworn off coffee (can you believe it, I live for that stuff!)

A book about movies:
1001 Movies you Must see before you die, by Steven Jay Schneider
The New York Times Guide to the Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made
... just search "Movies" under books, for a lot of great movie books

1. Something to decorate his office: either a plant or a framed picture of some nature scenery
2. A box of chocolates
3. A box with a variety of herbal infusions (if he has sworn off coffee he might be in to that, and if he isn't, he might be intrigued by it). Sometimes you can get a wooden box of those, shape of a treasure chest, not very expensive. Otherwise you can put something together - for some reason I think you might have an artistic bent.
4. If I'm right that you have an artistic side to you, have you thought of making something for him? That kind of thing is often very appreciated because it seems even more thoughtful.

Gal in MN got a good answer---but here's something you should know---as your employer, it is quite appropriate for him to purchase a gift for you. As an employee, you are in NO WAY obligated to buy a gift for him---I know how you women are about wanting to get a gift for everyone who got one for you, but this does NOT apply to employer/employee relationships---you are also not expected to get him a Christmas bonus, and if you cannot afford to buy him a gift, well, he isn't paying you enough.
A fruit basket also would be cheap and nice...buy wicker at a second hand store and fill it yourself...

Home made gifts are the best. Some type of baked good wouldn't cost you to much and you could wrap it in film to make it Christmasy. I'm sure he would appreciate the fact that you took time to make something special.

A small but nice box of giftcards is always nice. At that age he probably actually still writes notes to people :)
Even 6 cards, if they are really nice, are impressive. Check at a museum store.

A Bible KJV! You could also get a box of scripture verses for him to place on his desk, and each morning he comes to work he just opens the box picks one to read as a scripture verse for the day!

You should concentrate on buying something for his office, maybe something out of cut glass that he could sit on his desk or cadenza. Good luck.
