do we leap to catchup or leap to go ahead?

I agree, leap to catch up as 1 year is technically 364.25 days and we commonly say 365, if only orbits were perfect there would be a need for leap year...

Neither. Its quite arbitrary. There is no distinction... there is no reference point to make such a determination. Catching up or going ahead is meaningless... the point of the leap year is to ensure synchronicity long-term.

People are saying "agreed" as though this were an opinion.
