I have seen kids as young as 8 years old with cellphones & i think that's just too ridiculous. Personally i don't think kids should have cellphones period b/c they are not old enough to be responsible with them but since i know that will not change i think they shouldn't have one at least till they old enough to at least be partial responsible with them(around 15 or 16 years old). Just my opinion.

Well I had to buy my own cell phone and I pay for my own minutes... my parents do nothing! I think kids should get cell phones around jr. high. no sooner... I only use my phone for emergancies.... I don't need to call anybody yet. I can use my land line for calling friends.

-I'm 15.

I'm inclined to agree, but the younger children that I have personally known about having cell phones had them more for safety than socializing. Most phones have settings to block use other than what the parent intended. That's a nice safety feature. I am more worried about the physical problems it may cause. Our brains aren't fully formed until about age 20, so who knows what it can be doing? We already know that there is some connection between cell phones and brain tumors/cancer. I don't have kids. I would drive us both crazy being overprotective. LOL

I agree. When they start driving and going out with friends is a good time for a cell phone and then ONLY for emergency use. I think cellphone use in general has gotten out of hand though.

A kid should get a cell phone around 12 or 13. Or when there might be need for one in an emergency.

A lot depends on the kids. I've seen all kinds of dumb stuff they do. I have to agree with you on this one Squirell...the only bad thing is with kids who are old enough to drive, they need to be taught not to talk while driving. I've seen it too many times....they don't pay any attention & get in wrecks. 8 years old is riduclous. Good thinking!

My hubby and I aren't blessed with children yet, but when we are they will have cell phones as soon as they are able to physically use one...

but it will be one of those simple kids ones that only allow you to call home or the police or a couple of other predetermined phone numbers - so the kid can call and tell me where he is or I can call him and check in.

Cell phones are an important way to keep connected!

If a kid can work, then the kid can get a cell phone. 8 year old kids don't need cell phones. That is just plain retarded.

i grow to be 19 as quickly as I have been given my first cellular telephone. i mandatory something to maintain in touch with kin as quickly as I moved removed from abode. I grew up for the duration of a time whilst cellular telephones have been purely beginning as much as grow to be frequently happening. fairly some human beings had them, even though it grow to be decrease than no circumstances a necessity. i think of consistent with possibility 50% of my buddies had a cellular telephone in severe college. in all probability 80% of my buddies in college had cellular telephones. My husband and that i've got been talking approximately this at the instant relatively, and he thinks that as quickly as they get old sufficient to start up after college activities we can get them a telephone... no longer an iphone, yet consistent with possibility a style of toddler telephones the place there are in basic terms some pre-programmed numbers, in order that they are in a position to call abode whilst they must. as quickly as they are in highschool, I have not any problem in the event that they want a actual telephone, in the event that they are prepared to pay for it themselves. we are all approximately permitting our young toddlers to do issues that they earn, so they are in a position to have sufficient possibility to earn the money for it. Plus we can in all probability get a kin plan so including a line is purely like $15 a month or something like that.

I wanted a cell phone for years until my aunt got me a pay-as-you-go one when I was 10, and my mom did not really approve of it. But then she realized how much of a great idea it was. So I would say 10 years +.

Feliz Navidad!
