Doctors say between 4 & 6 months. Mine said to wait until at least month 5.

Baby's should be able to hold their head up unassisted & sit up w/ assistance.

These are markers that their intestines have fully formed :)

Honestly - they say between 4 and 6 months. However I have done both. My older child I gave to the first month of her life. She is fine. I have twins also - did not give it to them until they were 3 months or so as they had some swallowing issues.
I would say if you are comfortable with giving your child cereal - start very slow. Little bits here and there until he / she adjust to the new taste. I did put it in my older daughter's bottle which they tell you not to do -
The twins I did not - they only had it spoon fed.

Use your intuition - if you are a mother you will learn that that comes in handy more than anyone else's advice :)

my daughter just turned 4 months and since 2 months has been able to hold her head up well and for the past month has been sitting up well assisted and starting to unassisted. so her doctor said we could try some cereal and see how she does. at first she pushed it out, i didn't push her into it and would try and laugh with her than drop it for a few days. (she was also drinking 8+ ounces of formula at a feeding by the way). now she doesn't push it out and is doing well with the rice cereal. talk to your doctor, make sure not to push it on your baby if they reject it. relax

Our pediatrician said it was ok to start them at 5 months. We have a 5 month old girl, and we mix a little rice cereal flakes with her milk now, and also spoon feed her some Gerber oatmeal and pears stage 1 food.

Medically, you are to wait six months. An infant can develop allergies if you give anything other than formula or breastmilk before this time.

at four months. make sure you make it kind of runny at first b/c they have to get used to swallowing. you want to use one type of cereal (oatmeal, whole grain, etc.) for at least five days to make sure there are no allergies. then you can introduce another one. use their formula to mix it, but DO NOT put cereal in the bottle, it can cause them to choke. at about six months they can try baby food. and once again, give them the same kid for at least five days to check for allergies. it is better to start with veggies first so they don't become too accustomed to the sweetness of the fruit. you can try mixing it in with cereal at first. good luck!

I gave both of my kids cereal at 3 months and they are both fine. The doctor usually says 4 months or so. It doesnt hurt them.. A girl I know started hers on cereal at 4 weeks... So it's up to you really. But if you listen to the doctor your child will starve. I started mine on baby food at 4 months and the doctor says 6 months!
