The first answer was ridiculous. You are suppose to educate yourselves? Your parents are suppose to educate you and give you the tools you need to make informed decisions. Everyone makes mistakes. Those criticizing you also make mistakes, theirs are just not evident from looking at them. I know that I had unprotected sex when I was a teenager. Most of us did. Some of us were lucky and some of us weren't. Let them think what they want and prove them wrong. Everyone should be as perfect as they think that they are.

"Why do adults sit there and criticize teen mothers when they should educate them on how to be good responsible parents"
Because they screwed up. They did not teach their kids about sexual responsibility or they raised kids with no self control and now want to shift blame and say kids will be kids. You can't teach what you don't know.
"Do you think they will get off the governments help if we keep on bashing them instead of trying to help?"
No, most won't get off Goverment help. But if unintended pregnancy is seen as irresponsible and undesirable, perhaps it will stop occuring it such disturbingly high numbers.
"Why aren't there any programs to educate and encourage teen mothers?"
Because there is only so much money to go around, what with all the teen moms needing government help, well, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure....too bad no one's listening.
"because I am very respondsible and independent."
Ok, I believe you. I am sure your pregnancy was intended and you were in love, and will be with the father for the rest of your life nurturing your baby to be everything it can be. You & Dad are also ready to completely provide on your own everything your baby will need from you....wait...you rent from your Mom.
You don't need to be a slut or ho to be irresponsible and make poor choices. Right idea, wrong timing.

I don't think these girls are considered sluts, I would say they're considered irresponsible. It's not up to us to educate you...these girls should educate themselves before jumping in the sack. There are programs out there, you just have to look for them.
Kim H-yes, they can educate themselves...they're in school, which I'm sure, provides a health or sex education class, they can talk to their doctor or guidance counselor, and there is most definitely a library in their town. There are resources all over the place for them to get a hold of. I agree that the parents should talk to their kids about sex, but a lot of kids and parents don't want to talk to each other about sex.

being pregnant at 18 isnt as bad as being pregnant at 14. if you can support a baby and are ready to take on the responsibility it comes with then all the power to you. i think it is so looked down on because most "teens" like to do teen things..go to clubs, dances ect..having a baby pretty much makes you skip that step because it all turns out that its not all about you anymore, its about your baby now. good luck to you sweetie :)

The sole fact that a a teenager is pregnant is extremely irresponsible, you can try and justify it any way you like. First of all decayed morals in values in this society has led to the "acceptance" of this type of behavior. Further, there are abundant methods to prevent pregnancies. and therefore absolutely no reason for teenagers to become pregnant.
Adult criticize pregnant teens because they do contribute to the decay of society. Don't believe me? Check out some statistics on children born to teen parents. Teenagers are ill-equiped and not mature enough to bring another person into the world.
I definitely wouldn't support a program to "encourage teen mothers" because that would be further acceptance of this skewed norm that it is okay for teenagers to have babies.

people (not me and there are others like me) like to look down on them cause they think they are going to take welfare and be idiots.
you can probably find something online. i would look for you but my parents would flip when the website came up under parental control and they would think i was pregnant and then that would not be fun to explain.

you got the order all wrong...
1 - get married
2 - have children
that's why we think poorly of pregnant teens...
p.s. you spelled "graduated" wrong

who cares what people think. You obviously are mature enough to physically have a baby. So you must be mature enough to raise one. People are just dumb.
