Because they already have old presidents on them. Yanking old George off the ones would be like saying whoever you replaced him with was better.

Usually, you don't get a coin unless there were special reasons. Washington on the $1 bill. Cause he was the first. Jefferson on the $2 bill cause everyone hated John Adams, who would have been number 2. Lincoln and Grant from the Civil War to peeve the South. Roosevelt got on the Dime because of his polio and his leadership of the March of Dimes, (really). Kennedy got on the Half Dollar, knocking off Franklin because Kennedy was killed, and also, the Democrats ran the House Senate and White House. Those are pretty much why.

If they constantly changed who was on bills and coins then it would be FAR too easy for people to forge money.
People would just claim it's the new money and there would be substantial costs printing the new money. Also, they only put legendary presidents on bills, not just any old George Bush 8-)

All the bills and coins already have people on them. It would be costly and pointless to change them. If a change was to be made, though, convention dictates that only dead people are to be used.
Besides, would you really want George Bush smirking at you ever day?

Probably because none have been deemed worthy of the honor. You have to be considered a "great" president, in order for such an honor to be bestowed upon you. None, nowadays, are.

They don't honor anyone with a stamp or currancy until they have been dead several years...in case it turns out they do something shameful.
