So, stuff that used to be plug n' play, for instance, my USB midi controller (that did not come with a driver cd) won't install automatically now. Now all my stuff that is plug n' play won't work. Any suggestions? thanks.

Your USB controller might being having an issue. Try right clicking "My Computer" and go to "Properties". Go to the "Advanced" tab and click "Device Manager".
If there are any red or yellow icons next to any of your devices, there is a problem. First, try shuting down your computer completely and turning it off. Then start it back up and see if your plug and play works. If not, let me know.

plug'n'play in commonly known as plug'n'pray. What o/s are you using? It could be that the drivers do not support your o/s.
