Well, this is how I remembered it. Mitosis refers to the division of cells , so it goes from haploid to diploid (increases). Meiosis on the other hand refers to the division of gametes (sexual reproductive cell such as an egg or sperm), so it goes from diploid to haploid (decreases). Since meiosis, has an e just remember this one refers to the sexual reproduction of cells. Hope that helps!!!

Mitosis produces 2 diploid cells, and meiosis produces 4 haploid cells. During anaphase of mitosis, sister chromatids separate, and during anaphase of meiosis I, homologous chromosomes separate. Meiosis I is different from mitosis, but meiosis II is basically the same, except that the resulting cells will be haploid.
During prophase I, a cell accumulates materials for its daughter cells and sorts its doubled chromosomes in synapsis. During metaphase I, spindle fibers pull each tetrad to the equator. During anaphase I, homologous chromosomes separate. Telophase is the opposite of prophase.

They both align their chromosomes on a midline and pull apart. It is meiosis that is the reproductive cylcle that only has 1/2 the chromosomes.

Hmm I cant really remember which is which but I'm sure one of them has half the amount of chromosomes because it is in the reproductive organs (I think it's meiosis)
But I can't remember any similarities

mitosis may occure in all of cells but miosis occure just in sexal cells & in mitosis, number of chromosoms of doughter are the same of mother cells but in miosis, the number of chromosom decline to half beacaus thay will coumpound with anothr cell.
