I was going to use it as an insulator inside the door frame. Is should be like soft rubber about 1/2 inch in diameter. Any ideas?

How about surgical tubing? I have bought it from the company listed below (a scuba supply business). It comes in various sizes. Hope that helps.

Neoprene might be the best material. (Other products out there also)
I have had a friend who purchased "Soaker" hose from a home store to use as an insulator.
You might want to try a few large MRO distributors you can purchase online from - see links:
