ALTA - Very famous in north India especially in Bengal. Generally it used for decorating the feet of women, not only brides marking it an auspicious item. It used to be made with Sindur and Kungumam (made of Vermillion) but now they make it commercially with dyes and chemicals. By applying it in fee it used to give cooling effect to the entire body. -
