It really is normal. That area stretches soooo very much, and even if you didnt tear around your vaginal opening you can actually get minute rips, called skid marks (i know, i know) theyre like a rug burn almost, only inside your vagina, or just around it. They take a few weeks to heal.
You can also bruise, and usually do around and in the vagina.
Beyond all that, the muscles of the birth canal and the tendons that support the pubic and groin area take such an incredible beating, especially since you had a 9 pounder. They will be sore and swollen for a while, thats probably what you're experiencing.
I think it took me about 4-6 weeks to feel normal again in that way, my pubic bone and the nerve that runs along that area (almost like the hot spot you hit when you're having sex) were sooooo swollen and sooooo sore and achey for a long while after giving birth.
You can try ice, maybe hold off on the kegels for a week or so.
It'll stop, I promise. OH! I almost forgot, be SURE to use your squirt bottle EVERY TIME YOU GO TO THE BATHROOM. I dont know why but that pain got WAAAY worse if i didnt spray myself off after peeing.

its all perfectly normal within another week you should see more improvements - if not call the DR. but ya the bleeding and pain is all normal... some people are just diff than others - some people take a little longer to recover and thats ok - is this your first? If you are super worried you should call the Dr. anyhow - just to feel better - do you use ice that might help in ur vaginal area... also keep taking the tylenol they gave you. Sorry thats not too much help but know that its pretty normal... ALSO be sure you are sleeping whenever you can (so whenever the baby sleeps you sleep) your body is stil recovering and went through a lot! Congrats and dont worry too much!

First rule out infection with your doc. I had a major muscle tear when my son was born that took forever to heal. Over 6 months. So it can just be wear and tear of childbirth. Try heat or cold, and maybe some tylenol. So long as there is no infection, it should get better in time. (My tear took over 6 months to heal but it was extensive as baby shot out like a rocket -sorry if its TMI).

im sorry about the bath tub business... i didnt have stiches
Take your pain medicine as prescribed.
Put an ice pack on the area. Ice helps reduce discomfort and swelling.
Use your medicated sprays, creams and Tuck's® pads.
Take a sitz bath 2 to 3 times a day.
Use a doughnut ring or soft cushion for sitting.

I had the same type of pain you are talking about after i had my kids...so as far as i know its normal and should go away in the next couple of weeks... My kids were 9lbs9oz and 10lbs but im not a small person but i do know that anyone who has big kids is going to have some pain for awhile after birth.... Call your doctor if you are worried or in alot of pain that you cant handle....thats what they are for. :)

I think it's normal. I felt a lot better recovering in the hospital than I did a week later at home! It's like the pain just all of a sudden hits you weeks later! Just keep moving, take some tylenol, and rest when you need to. It will heal! :)

I had pain there as well, just pulled the muscles pushing her out. I also tore upwards a bit (they called it skid tears, as they were surface tears). I would sit in the shower and let it soak in a small amount of water, and that seemed to help.
Good luck. Call your doc if it is intense, you may develope an infection or something.

It could be bruising, muscle tears, or nerve damage. It will probably be weeks, if not months before you're back to normal. You should be able to call your doctor's office and talk to a nurse there, since there may be something that they can do to alleviate the pain.

well its normal to still have pain yeah i'd try ice....um you can try sitting on a bobby pillow. theres not really much you can do just wait it out.
if you had stitches do NOT soak in a bath it can cause infection!!! you can however have a sits bath which all that is where you sit in the tub (clean it first) and let the water run up under you.but like don't plug up the tub.
