I live in a nice double wide trailer in a very well cared for community. It might not be the biggest or nicest house but I pay my mortgage and lot rent and have nice furnishings. What makes one trailer trash? Do you have to live in a manufactured home to be trailer trash? Has anyone here ever lived in a trailer and felt backlash for it? How do I save my daughter from that, as she is starting school soon.

broiler- it is a small trailer community, i'd say mostly elderly people, a few single moms, hard-working families...everyone takes very good care of their houses and yards...I actually enjoy living there a lot.I am not really embarassed but i just don't like when people ask about my hosue because of the stigma associated with it. I am mainly concerned with my daughter but the party idea was a very good suggestion. Thanks!

You are not trailer trash.
Trailer Trash would have answered the following way:
"WTF ya'll!!! I ain't no vermin, an juss cuz I murried my cuzin and live in a home wit no flur and wit 18 dogs don't make me trash! Sure I got me 7 yungins, and all by diffint daddies, but I ain't no trash!"
That is my experience with trailer trash. Now, as for you... you seem intelligent, concerned, and sort of embassessed. Don't be. I have great friends who are definately not trash who live in nice trailers. If you keep the place tidy, decorate nicely, keep your property neat, and maintain your home with respect and decorum, then you are just another American home owner. I advise you to allow your daughter to have a party soon after school starts. Once other kids see how nice the inside of some manufactured homes can be (my friends have a fireplace and jacuzzi tub) they won't give her static. Most kids are all about confidence anyhow. If you daughter has a party, she will make friends and be confident.
Never be embarrassed for being a home owner and doing the best you can. I am proud of you for your hard work and obvious success as a parent.

You certainly aren't trailer trash. It's a racist term for whites who live in trailer. It's an ugly & repulsive term. Whites aren't the only ones who live in trailers either. So if you're a trashy person who lives in a trailer, then I guess you're trailer trash. The first post who said Britney is trailer trash is correct, but that also includes Paris Hilton, Michal Jackson, Pamela Anderson, and O.J. Simpson. I used to live in a trailer. I much prefer to pay notes on something that will be mine & I can sell rather than rent an apartment. Don't allow stereotypes to get to you. Good luck. 2D

Trailer trash does not include EVERYBODY that lives in a trailer. To me, is their attitudes and way of life. People that have tattoos allover their bodies, chain smoke, crack hores, low life are to me trailer trash. But I've seen a lot of decent people living in trailers too.
Also, I know alot of people that DONT live in trailers and are Trailer TRASH. most famous EX: Britney Spears
