I think it has been. Don't know what, though.

For me it has been...I have not gone to any shopping places this year and if I'm watching TV I mute commercials. My family and friends all made a pact this year to keep it simple. No gift exchanges, except for the little ones (but much simpler than in the past). I am giving my teenage brother movie passes and my girlfriends with kids the same. Other than a painting I am painting for my grandmother it's just my husband I have to shop for. We decided this year to keep it to one gift under $75. I am hoping that over the next few years I can phase out Christmas all together, I've never been a big fan and now that I have done research on the origins and meanings of Christmas I am convinced to let it go completely. This year has been a huge refreshment from years past and I agree with you...I have noticed a lot more people slimming down on commercialized Christmas. The ads may be running but so many people are not shopping in excess like they did before.

Not a chance. I've seen more ads on TV and shops selling tacky overpriced **** this year than I have in the last 15 . It gets worse every year. I'm no ebeneezer but everyone looks just plain old miserable in the shopping centres this year. And just wait for the sales! They wheel out special racks of 30 year old tat and seldom reduce the stuff you really had your eye on. bAhhhhHH! I'd rather spend time with my family.

Personally, I believe that merchants regardless of who they are have gone way overboard and really over shadowed the real meaning of Christmas.

Yes it should be a celebration, and yes we should give out of the goodness of our hearts, but not in excess.

The celebration is of the Birth of Jesus Christ, the wise men gave frankincense and myrrh, nothing extravagant, but they gave out of respect for the miracle of the birth that was foretold of times past.

We should always remember this. It will help us to keep things in perspective.

No, just the opposite, since Thanksgiving came early, it all started off so early and has become annoying with all those horrible Christmas tunes going on and on and on.

I haven't heard as many christmas songs... Maybe that's a good thing? Other than that, it seems the same.
