Metatonin has been used to help with sleep for decades and works well for most people. When I find trouble getting to sleep I usually take one or two tablets or capsules of benadryl. The drug in benadryl is diphenhydramine which is an antihistimine used for allergies and allergic reactions but it also makes you tired. I recommend this to anyone who asks me in the pharmacy for a sleep aid. As far as studies show benadryl isn't addictive and isn't a controlled substance. I wouldn't take this all the time as your body can grow a tolerance to the drug as it does with anything you put in your body. Other than Melatonin and Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) there isn't much out there that actually works in helping people fall asleep. Hope this helps, stay healthy.

Unisom works real well and is non-prescription. Chronic insomniac here. Habit forming and easy to build a tolerance, like anything else don't use it regularly.

Melatonin - take minimum dosage, if it makes it worse, reduce the dosage. If it doesn't help, slowly increase until you get restful sleep.

Chamomile tea - Yes, it works. My daughter calls it her sleeping medicine. When she is too worked up after a hectic day, a hot cup of chamomile tea and hone = good night's sleep.

Dimeatap - (spelling?) Though it is just not good for you to take it IMO, it does knock people out!

Valerian and lemon balm combined together have been tested and do work very well--better than either alone. Also bodywork--massage is useful, but acupressure even better --can help you with relaxation. I have clients who tell me they have slept better after treatments than they have for years. And don't forget old fashioned exercise--the more tired you are the better you will sleep--just don't do rigorous exercise right before sleep as it may rev you up. Try yoga, taiji, Qigong

Valerian root or melatonin are good and they are available at local health food stores. You can also try benadryl.
