I'm a novice with limited horseback riding experience. I'll be going at the end of December. I'm also interested in Redwood trails in the area.

I'm looking at the yellow pages right now.

Camp Silvano on Petrified Forest road in Calistoga
Diamond Mountain Stables in Calistoga
The Feather Farm, Napa
Napa Valley Equestrian Center, Napa
Oak Leaf Ranch, Napa
Valley Oak Stables

I'm sure looking any of those up could help you or point you in the right direction. My husband used to board and ride his horse at The Feather Farm. And they offer lessons too.

the others have got you covered with places to go, but I would not recommend it. End of december into January starts the rainy season. two years ago new years weekend we got 13 inches of rain over night.

so if you don't mind rain, go for it. It has been quite dry up until this week, but is raining through the weekend now.

Also, there are no redwoods in napa county. sonoma might be better bet.
