I think jrocks's subtle distinction makes a point. I don't think it's overtly racist such that she supports him "only because he's black", but it's reasonable to wonder whether she would support a non-black candidate with Obama's platform as enthusiastically. As was said, that's not racist, that's realist.

I don't care anyway. I can't respect anyone who would let a talk show host decide who they should vote for for President, no matter what color they are.

Maybe Oprah's setting herself up for a presidential bid of her own in 2012. Gawd, what a thought. Oprah for President, Martha Steward for VP. Nothing surprises me anymore.

she probably wouldn't have since she has never openly made a comment about any other presidential candidate liek she has with Obama. Hell he could say that we should jsut surrender and give up our country and she would back him just because of his race. It should be considered racist but they will say that they can't be racist since they are black.

I do agree that oprah might have endorsed on obama mainly because of his color and similar beliefs.

She may feel a connection with him because he came from humble beginnings and has had his racial background called into question because his father was Muslim. Is that so wrong? From hearing her speak, it certainly seems as if she's on board with the direction that he wants to take the country in, not just his skin color.

just because you 'believe' something to be true.. doesn't mean it is. It's your opinion.. and though you are entitled to it.. it is based on nothing more than your personal thoughts... you have no facts upon which this has been rationalized. I'm not saying everyone doesn't do this... but you asked this question which makes my statement relevant.

If Obama were anything other than black Oprah would not support him.

The only issue I have with the question is if he were 100% Irish, he couldn't run for president.
