I have lived here for a year and love it. I don't gamble so I don't waste a lot of money. Anything you can think of they have here. You will find you will only go to the strip when you have to go. As a local you get discounts on shows and attractions. Just make sure you get a local ID at the DMV.

If you like the sun then this is the place. It shines almost 365 days a year here. It may cloud up and may storm during some days but the sun will be out at some time during that day. It does get hot during the summer but you will get use to it. It will take a full year for your body to adjust to it. It is a 24/7 town so you will have something to do around the clock.

The people are not rude .. but not real friendly like most other areas of the country. They stay to themselves. You won't know your neighbors because people come home and stay inside. It is different here but easy to get use to. Give it a chance .. it will grow one you.

I have been to Vegas many times and actually shopped for a house there several years ago. I have a relative who lives there and have visited his neighborhood and house several times. Vegas is just like any other city, but growing by leaps and bounds. It has some very nice neighborhoods and some (north of the city) that are not so nice. It also has some crime like other cities. It has some great moderately priced houses (i.e. $300K to $400K) and a lot of upscale houses now. It has some nice suburbs like Henderson and Green Valley, south of the city, and more being built each day. I read in the newspaper there that many of the previously affordable houses (like $150 to $200K) are now out of the price range for many people who work in the casinos, unless they have two incomes. The article said even the police and fire personnel couldn't afford many of the new houses. There are very nice apartment complexes also.

Like other big cities Vegas has a lot of traffic, especially on the strip. But it also has a couple freeways to bypass the strip traffic. There are a lot of casino and service jobs. So you will find whatever you find in any other city and I cannot say that it is better or worse than others. If you like mostly hot and dry weather and a very short winter season you will like Vegas.

You should read the Vegas newspaper (link below)

Las Vegas is like any other city. Those who live here don't frequent the tourist areas. Many still go to local casinos which also have movie theaters, bowling, etc. Of course, it is very hot in the summer time, but the weather is fantastic in the fall.

Traffic is awful. I hope you work close to where you will be living.

There are fun things to do that don't involve casinos. I love to go hiking in Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire State Park. I have many friends that like to go to Laughlin and have fun along the Colorado River. Mt. Charleston is a short drive, and in the winter there is snow for skiing. Lake Mead is fun for water skiing or boating. There are many place to go shopping here.

I hope this helped.

Locals rarely go to the casinos. Generally only when someone visits them from out of town. It's pretty much like any other city of comparable size.

I've heard it's a very nice place to live. Not like the wild scene of the strip. I think you're going to like it there.
