Why Most Indian Muslims?

Question

When it comes to marriage, why most Indian Muslims turn a deaf ear to a girl's choice? Although the Quran clearly states that a girl should be given her freedom of choice to pick her life partner, then why most Indian Muslims don't practice this teaching of Quran?

Bindi: I agree, terrorism is just a propaganda, for scapegoating but on the arranged marriage part i kind of disagree, because the number of people violating the basic rights of girls, reflect more in statistics.

According to me its not only Muslims in India who ignores girl's choice but even in other religion also is the same. But things are changing in other rest religion, but in Muslims they still want it to male dominant and unfortunately even the females (e.g. mother of the girl, aunts) they all want it that way coz whn they didnt have the right to choose then dont want the same for their girl too strange but true. I have quite a lot of muslim friends and when such kind question was raised by their daughters, they had just plain and pattern answer, " Before I married your father, my parents didnt ask me whether I like your father or not, I just went ahead with my parents decision coz they know whats right or wrong.". I'm not saying parents are wrong but atleast the girl has this much right in her life to see who is the right partner for her rather than just blindly getting her married to some person (Like how a butcher trades in and out goat or cow) afterall its she who has to spent her entire life with the respective partner. I'm not a total feminist, but females yet have to understand their rights and no one but her mom can be a moral support just by thinking this way, if I have suffered such a thing I shouldnt allow my daughter to suffer the same.

I'm just voicing out my thoughts, this is what I feel. Here some people say education plays a main role, yes true education does, but not always, and such cases occurs in an educated family also. Isnt it something to think about? Are we (girls) made out of the same hands of God who created man? Then why such kind of racisms, discrimination?

I agree with u here that most of the orthodox Muslim families don't consider the girl's choice for marriage. Most of the times, its bcoz they are ignorant of what the Holy Quran says, sometimes they just think that their daughters don't have that experience or knowledge that they can choose a better husband for themselves. This actually needs to be changed but on the other hand it has been noticed that most of the girls take advantage of the liberty they are given & indulge in affairs & other practices that are nto allowed in Islam. So there needs to be a perfect balance from both the sides so that the girls gets to choose her husband without crossing her limits or without disrespecting her family members. The parents should also consider their daughter's opinion before getting her married to a guy of their choice.

A Girl in Islam should have the choice to select her future husband. Muslims don't exactly follow the religion if they do not allow the girl's right to choose.

But, a girl should choose a Muslim adult male who has enough means to support the wife financially, emotionally and in any other way possible.

Now as to why Indian Muslims do not allow the right, it is because of cultural reasons. A lot of Muslims think that their cultural practices are also Islamic. This is why they insist that girls should listen to the parents and not use their right to choose. It is wrong and a girl should be given the right to choose her husband within the Islamic bounds. This means no dating and only supervised/chaperoned meetings.

when it comes to marriage, the elders think the girl is not wise enough as the family is. the girl might actually think of love and not abt creating a relationship that opens up opportunities for the family. its easy for a girl to fall in love and therefore they are considered thoughtless and silly, which i believe is nonsense and a girl should have a say in her life not just her elders. Then that leads into a whole new issue-sexism and equal treatment and that women should get an equal say in everything, not just men. see, it becomes more than religion.

HERE THE THING WHICH IS THE BIGGEST OBSTACLE IS THE CULTURE WHICH IS FOLLOWED BY A FATHER AND THEN THE SON.

BOTH FOLLOW THE SAME CULTURE. IF THE FATHER IS ORTHODOX THEN HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MOTIVATE HIS SON OR GIVE HIM A PROPER SURROUNDING TO GET MOTIVATED AND LEARN WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE WORLD.

THE SON REPEATS THE FATHER STEPS. AND THIS THING GOES ON AND ON.

SECONDLY THERE ARE SO MANY GIRLS WHO WANT FREEDOM WITH THIS KIND OF SITUATION BUT THERE FAMILY COMES IN BETWEEN.

THIRD MUSLIMS ARE VERY VERY VERY GOD FEARING PEOPLE AND THEY ALSO FEAR ABOUT THE SOCIETIES REACTION ON THERE DECISION.

EDUCATION IS THE KEY THING WHICH THIS GIRLS ARE KEPT DEPRIVED FROM. THEY NEED IT TO KNOW THE WORLD OTHERWISE THERE WORLD IS JUST THERE HOME BEFORE MARRIAGE AND HUSBANDS HOME AFTER MARRIAGE.
