If you are "offended" by the suggestion that Christmas is Jesus' birthday..then dont take the holiday pay or the day off. All those people should report to work all next week. It would save companies millions for your dedication to your cause!...and it would allow me to go get my breakfast biscuit as normal.
If you have to say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas", you should not ever be allowed to put a tree up or a blinking light.
ok..here's the question part for the yahoo police:
Do you agree?

Christmas has several connotations in our society: religious and secular. Though for most, it holds a combination of the two. December 25th is the celebration of the birth of Christ in Christian tradition. It isn't his real birthday - the ancients didn't have PDA's to email us his real birthday. It is a date chosen by the ancient Church that helped bridge some gaps with groups they were trying to incorporate by joining their holiday period (not holiday beliefs) with the Christian tradition. I am referring to the Celts. Therefore, even in ancient times Christmastime incorporated more than one cutural holiday. The belief in giving gifts comes from the visitation of the Magi (aka 3 wise men), who gave the Christ Child gold, frankinsence, and mhyrr. So, thank the middle eastern kings when you get a nice Christmas gift. They started the whole gift giving bonanza!

In our secular society, we put up a Christmas tree. The tree is actually a pagan symbol for renewal of life - and an ancient winter ceremony as well. However, by putting up a tree we do not celebrate or for the most part even know of the pagan gods, we do it as an American tradition taken from an old European tradition. It celebrates family, culture, love, generosity, caring, etc.

My question to you is this: What is your point? Why the anger? Try this - if you have a family, put up a tree. Go to Christmas services at church. See if it is a terrible as you seem to believe. If you don't find anything so hateful, then leave it alone. As far as people who say happy holidays, they are either not Christian or are afraid of offending others. I say Merry Christmas unless I know the person is Jewish, Muslim, etc. Then I say the appropriate greeting. They say Merry Christmas to me. I have celebrated Chanukah with my Jewish friends, Kwanzaa with Black nationalists, and found no offense.

Remember the purpose of this season, Christmas or whatever you call it. The purpose is forgiveness, love, generosity, family, and friends. Not politics, or biscuits for that matter.

No, I'm not offended and neither should any learned person since December 25th is not the birth day of this person millions refer to as "Jesus". His real name is Easa (peace be upon him). I taught Christian theology for four years before I began to fully practice the way of submission. Anyway, most Americans and Europeans that celebrate this festivity are practicing winter solstice no matter what you think. In fact if one reads the Torah correctly you would know that G-d forbid trees from being brought into the home for pagan rituals, such as decorating the tree with fairies and other ornaments and placing gifts below for their gods. People need to learn the his-story (history) of Christ Mass (Christmas) before making commentary on it. Hope that helps. I always drop links for education so more people become learned. I'm more offended by people who think that it *was* Jesus' birthday rather than a celebration created 300 something years after his death to create political reconciliation between the xtians and different pagan religions in the Roman empire of the time. I mean, read your history, it's all there.

And people say "Happy Holidays" because there are *other* holidays (holy days) than Xtianity, and *some* people want to acknowledge that. Of course, a lot of xtians are upset by the prospect of respecting other religious beliefs, and that's why they holler about their being a "war against xmas" and all that jazz.

Oh yeah, and if I say "Xmas" I'm not taking Jesus out of Christmas or any other such stupid thing. The Greek letter chi, which looks like a cursive capital x, was used for centuries as an abbreviation for Christ. But how would you know that, if you haven't even bothered to learn about the history of your Lord and Saviour's birthday party?

ummm......no. I think all religious bigots should have to report to work because you disrespect other people's faith without understanding them. There are several religion who have holidays around this time. The Jews have Hanukkah, the Muslims have Ramadan, The Hindus have a celebration for their New year, the Christians have Christmas, and Africans have Kwanzaa. All these faiths deserve a day off with pay as well even though it's not your personal belief.

So get over yourself and your bigotry. Remember, Jesus said Love your neighbor, not love your neighbor only if he is Christian. And for the record, Jesus was actually born sometime in the Summer about the year 6 BC according to most biblical scholars. It was Constantine who changed the liturgical calender. So learn your Church History.

Also, most religious holidays in the Christian Church are based off of or around the same time frame as Pagan Holidays. Also, it's a Free country and we can choose to celebrate whatever we want whenever we want. Plus I don't like Christmas anyway because we no longer are celebrating the birth of Christ, we are celebrating Malls and credit cards. Christmas has become so overly commercial. Plus by your logic, every holiday you don't agree with should be worked by you, and then you would not get the holiday pay. So if you don't agree with Hanukkah, then work the whole seven days without pay. Would you think that was fair?

Watch it. You'll learn a lot about your precious truth and completely original religion.

And where in your bible does it say anything about a chopped down evergreen tree being a symbol of the time jesus was born. Hope Jesus comes and gives you gifts because Santa has absolutely nothing to do with Christianity that I know of. Have a happy holiday and trust me, I'd rather be working instead of listening to my family argue about stupid crap.

Addition: Abdul-Hafiz, you are very smart. I choose to honor the Egyptian Sun God, Horus, but to me, this time of year is always based on promoting chear during the darkest days of the year, no matter who you honor. Christians seem to think it's all about them when in reality it's all about astrology. I think I'd vote you as best answer if I asked this question. Thanks for your knowlegeable input.

Thank You...A Christmas Tree is what it shall be... If a person of another religon is offended by it (no offense if you are not trying to be mean and all) they shouldnt try to rename it! We call the tree a Christmas Tree not a Holiday tree just like Jewish people call a menorah a menorah. If you dont celabrate Christmas(Jesus's Birthday) then you shouldnt try to rename it. I agree totally

You do realize Jesus wasn't actually born on Christmas and the Christmas started as a Pagan holiday.

Also the tree is a Pagan, not Christian symbol.

Also, it's a federal holiday.

Consider the holiday pay as a gift to all from us Christians on this most auspicious of anniversaries.

And to non-christians, make sure you say a "thank you" to God while you spend the extra money you got because of his sons birthday. Ain't that a good deal? You get to NOT believe and still reap the benefits of the holiday- sweet!!!
