They actually sell a product at most home and garden centers that is supposed to work. I have never tried it though. There is a company out there that will come out and take measurements for a cover that fits over your existing tub.

It's done at the factory with gelcoat. It's not easy to get a good finish - you should hire someone that has experience with it.
