With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

Babies dont need cows milk after weaning. Afterall..he's not a calf! LOL. But if you must do it, you can start at about a year old. His tummy can't handle it now. Be good to the child and buy organic milk and not the stuff loaded with hormones and chemicals. OJ is too acidic. If you want to give him juice, water down white grape juice or apple juice. Again, I suggest organic. Farmers use way too many pesticides on fruit!

Check the books in the library for baby food recipes, At 5 months you can probably introduce cereals and baby food, go with rice cereal and bananas, easy to digest and get some baby vitamins if possible. That at least will tide you over and cost a lot less than a can of formula, or get a can of the cheap formula.

You've already been given many different suggestions, now I suggest you get on the phone and start calling around.

I read somewhere cow's milk can retard brain growth in infants under the age of 1. Not sure, just read it somewhere. Your child's doctor's office should be able to get you samples. I think that is the best suggestion. Call them and ask them.
Some 5 month olds are ready for baby food. If you have any bananas around you can mush that up and add a little water and feed him that with a baby spoon. I'd only do that a little, the formula has the nutrients he needs.

This might be controversial. Frankly, I think you will be fine to use cow milk in an emergency. What do you think they used to do before infant formula was invented? Infant formula hasn't always existed, so people used cow milk, or more preferably, goat milk.

Do you know how they USED to make formula? Evaporated (canned) milk and corn syrup. There are lots of recipes for homemade infant formula online.
What I would recommend is to buy evaporated milk, the stuff in the can (NOT sweetened condensed milk) to use in this emergency situation. Obviously, it's better to feed your child than to let the baby starve for fear of cow milk. If you can't find help from a shelter or your doctor (who might have free samples) you'll have to feed the child somehow.

"Substituting evaporated milk for whole milk may make the homemade formula easier to digest because of the effect of processing on the protein, but the formula is still nutritionally inadequate and still may stress the kidneys." It's definitely something you don't want to rely on, but it's better than letting the baby starve.

If you don't want to do evaporated cow milk, check with your local health food store--they usually carry goat milk. Make sure the goat milk is whole (not skim.) I've even seen evaporated goat milk in a can. As long as you are feeding the child in that way, you should add hardboiled egg YOLK (not the whites) to baby's diet. The Yolk contains the fatty acids that baby's brain needs.

As long as you are at the library, check to see if they have a book called Super Baby Food. It's a great guide to making sure your child receives the best nutrition possible--and it might have even more ideas than I do.

One alternative is if you have any friends that are currently nursing their babies--they might be able to either pump or be a wetnurse for a few days until you are able to figure something out. It's also not too late to relactate--a good lactation consultant can help you if you decide you're interested in that route (if moms who adopt children can lactate, you can too.)

My heart goes out to you.

Contact a church near by and see if they can help. Definitely don't give him cows milk---it not only won't provide the nutrition he needs, but it could also make him really sick.

You are not a worthless mom, but you are human and we make mistakes. If a church nearby can't help, get yourself to a women's shelter or a food bank for the homeless--they will have formula to help you. Even giving him less-expensive formula is better than giving him cows milk.

If it helps at all, God made you just the way you are and He loves you even with your imperfections (we all have them!). Feed your baby when he is hungry, and get yourself either to a shelter, a social services office, or a hospital immediately to get some help. Just don't let that baby go hungry!

I'm going to pray for you--God Bless you!

No, he cannot have cow's milk. Not only will it make him sick, but it won't give him the nutrients that his tiny body needs. If you're really in a jam, go to your nearest emergency food pantry and ask for help. If that doesn't work, call your son's pediatrician and explain the situation. Someone will be able to help; nobody is going to just let your baby go hungry. Good luck, and I'm praying for you.

Your baby can not have cow's milk until he's 1 year of age. Go to wic and explain what happened, or ask someone to borrow money.

NO!!! He could develop a life threatening allergy, not to mention it has no where near the nutrition he needs. Go back to WIC, go to a foodbank, go to a church and ask for help, but DO NOT give him cow's milk. It is not good for him.
