Anthony Smith has learned one thing this season - there are no guarantees.
The outspoken free safety has lost his starting job to Tyrone Carter. The move comes just two weeks after Smith's well-publicized guarantee that the Steelers would defeat the unbeaten New England Patriots on December 9. The Patriots (14-0) won the game 34-13 and Smith was burned on two long scoring throws during the game.

Im a Steeler fan and i thought it was a stupid thing to do, but he is right if we played good on both sides of the ball we could have won that game, score at halftime 17-13 we fell apart and a few mistakes were turned into 7 points. I dont think Anthony Smith will ever open up his trap again. I just hope those cocky Patriots lose in the playoffs and a perfect season will be meaningless!!!!!!!!!

Yea...that didnt exactly work out so well did it.

Im all for the whole "just shut up and play thing". Chad Johnson used to make me laugh when he did it.

Im thinking if it keeps up we can include sorta a WWE thing where before the games we can have the wide recievers and safetys get the mike and start taunting and talking about Steelermainia runnin wild on youuuuuuuuuu brother......(followed by a big pose down muscle flex and some diva in a bikini)

would be kinda funny when you think about it.

I'm with Ron above me (and I didn't kno that was the whole quote by the way).

Things are taken out of context but Anthony Smith is a 3rd round pick from Syracuse (my soon to be alma mata, jesus christ) and a back-up safety to boot. So, of all the people to make guarantees or "predictions" as Ron pointed out, he should be the last one to do it.

No one complains when Rasheed Wallace opens his trap and pulls out the Guaran-sheed and people always champion the guy who said "we're gonna win" and smash the guy who comes up short. Smith should have known better, especially since he's in the secondary.

Has any guaranty worked since Joe Namath's in Super Bowl 3? They only seem to make the other side more motivated. Well-coached teams like the Patriots don't make guarantees. "Play humble and humble the other side." (Adailus Thomas, N.E. Patriot Linebacker on WEEI today)

The only one ever that went out on a limb predicting a win was Joe Namath, the rest are just morons that are seeking publicity, their predictions are correct less than half of the time

Did you read his guarantee? It stated and I quote "We're going to win," Smith said. "Yeah, I can guarantee a win. As long as we come out and do what we got to do. Both sides of the ball are rolling, and if our special teams come through for us, we've got a good chance to win." Next time read the complete article before making the assumption. He said in plain words, if the Steelers play like they are supposed to play, they will win the game. They didn't play like they can, so they lost.

The same way I felt when George HW Bush said "Read my lips: no new taxes!"

What is it with people that think that they can control everything in a situation with uncontrollable variables?

What is it with business men, fans, and voters that believe them?

all it does is makes people watch the games they guarantee and it hypes up the games and it turns out to be a blowout(referring to anthony smiths guarantee)

This is clearly a cheap shot by a Pats* fan. Grow up. It's over. You won. This is why most people on YA can't stand Pats* fans.

it's a stupid arrogant thing to do. it was stupid when Joe Namath and Mark Messier did it as well - they are only memorable because they got lucky and won (Namath was particulary good in SBIII, the NYJ defense won the game).
