I just moved, and have set up an appointment with a GYN doctor. I don't care much whether it's a guy or girl, but she happens to be a girl. My question is... What do GYN doc's really think when they're "down there"? My old ob/gyn only ever saw me because I was pregnant, and I didn't care what she thought then, but now.. I just worry about the silliest details. I guess... I don't know, I want to know if it makes their job easier if you shave/wax before a visit, what if I have a busy day and can't do a quick clean up job before I'm seen, will she judge, do you think? HELP! :(

Any thoughts, comments, funny stories... anything would help really, just let me know I'm not the only one who worries about this silly stuff :(

Cheers

I am not personally friends with any doctors or gynecologists, but I do have friends that are nurses. Sometimes as a nurse you have to change adult diapers and you really just don't think about it... it is just one of those things. It becomes not much different than someone's arm or leg. Gynecologists are used to seeing just about everything there is... hair, little bits of toilet paper attached to hair, STD's, odors, etc. I reallllly wouldn't worry. Eventually, they all look the same.

My OB/GYN is a woman and she delivered my 1st and I'm 22 weeks with #2. She's never said I needed to shave and has never commented about "down there." I did recently have a couple of bumps and asked her if it matters. She checked them out and they were ingrown hairs from probably trying to shave too fast. No big deal. I told her I felt embarrassed but she said don't worry. I trust my doctor and she's great. I think most OB/GYNs are too professional to say something unless it's medically necessary. I don't shave it all, I just shave the sides and keep it trimmed. I've joked that I don't have a bush just more like a lawn. My doc doesn't seem to care.

I am in a similar situation. I moved and am over due for an annual exam (by 7 mos.) because after going to the same OB/GYN for 10 yrs., it's really tough to go to a new one!

I like to schedule my appts. as early in the a.m. as possible so that I am as clean as I can possibly be when I am examined. I just make sure I shave my legs that morning, etc.

I think when you go in this area of medical practice, it's what you are interested in/good at. So, it's more science than social. And when you look at crotches all day long you are probably nonplussed.

I worry about it too, even when I'm pregnant. The only thing that keeps me sane is thinking, "This is their job. They look at these things everyday. I doubt mine is the worst they will ever see."

As for shaving, I don't think it really matters. As long as they can get to what they need to get to then the hair has no effect on your exam. Generally what they look at is inside anyways. If you're worried about needing to be clean, you can get some summer's eve wipes. They come so you can just throw them in your purse and use them right before you head into the doctor's office.

Good luck!

Relax they don't really care about that as long as ur clean lol. I've had two kids and never had a word said when having my pap done. They won't judge u and remember they do this kinda stuff all the time. And congradulations on ur little girl I've two and they are precious even though they can be little devils at times. :)

They don't think anything. Especailly Ob's. They get pooped on during delivery.

But, when the nurse leaves the room for me to get in the gown, I always baby wipe first. Just as a courtesy.

They don't think anything. It's their job to be down there and believe me they see a lot of vagina's and they have probably smelled and seen the worst and the best. So, don't worry about all that. They will not say anything to you only if it's something to worry about. :)

Lol, relax! This is their job. They've seen everything and pretty much don't care. They spend all day looking "down there", so I'm sure nothing can surprise them.

don't give it another thought. i worked as a nurse to support my grad school habits and saw every kind of scamper. it got to be old hat after a while. it would be appreciated however if you would freshen up with a baby wipe to help cut the cheese
