If you are going in the water, you need to use a tampon. Pads would just swell up and fall out. The flow doesn't stop when you get in the water, and nobody wants to swim around in that. Plus, your suit will tell on you when you get out.

Tampons don't hurt if you put them in correctly. There are slim (or teen) sizes. That would be a good place for you to start.

Tampons are nothing to be afraid of, and you really do need one if you plan on going swimming during your period. Just get smaller of junior tampons, follow the instruction, and you'll be out swimming and having fun in no time.

Unfortunately, you have to use tampons. No, it does not hurt at all. The main thing is do not aim straight up, or straight back. Aim for the middle of your spine.

I am 13, and started using tampons when I was 10.

Consult your parents.
