a little bit of both

It is the latter. First of all, everyone knows that it is a bold lie that Christ was born in December. Why do majority in the world perpetuate this lie? All lies originate with the Devil...a proper noun meaning 'vicious lier.' Any surprise? No. Why?
It is because the current ruler of this world is Satan and majority of people choose the broad and spacious road that leads to destruction. Look up 'Christmas' in any encyclopedia including the 'Catholic'....and you will find out that Christmas Celebration is a 'carry-forward' of paganic feasts into the church. The church wanted to retain membership...and hence, permited this feast with the name 'Cristes Maesse' or ' the Mass of Christ.'

If you look up 'Christmas' in The Catholic encyclopedia (http://www.catholic.org/encyclopedia) excerpts read:

"Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the Church. ----The first evidence of the feast is from Egypt. About A.D. 200--------Concerning the date of Christ's birth the Gospels give no help; upon their data contradictory arguments are based. The census would have been impossible in winter: a whole population could not then be put in motion. Again, in winter it must have been; then only field labour was suspended. But Rome was not thus considerate. Authorities moreover differ as to whether shepherds could or would keep flocks exposed during the nights of the rainy season.----------
'Natalis Invicti' The well-known solar feast, however, of Natalis Invicti, celebrated on 25 December, has a strong claim on the responsibility for our December date."

Think for yourself. If it is a proven lie, why is it still perpetuated? Would anyone eat a candy from a dirty filthy stinky gutter, no matter how good the candy looks? Christmas celebration originates from paganic customs, akin to the dirty filthy stinky gutter...... and no one, no church--can make it clean.

Only two birthdays are recorded in the Bible and they both were in connection with horrrible events. Christ only asked us to memorialize his death.

Not to mention the people that make the commercials. When I heard Jingle Bells this morning I thought maybe I had slept a very long time. It's only November 2nd,but I guess we're lucky it didn't start in September.

I think it depends on the person or family. Life is meaningless if all you celebrate is commercial trends. We all need to look into the deep meaning of the things we do, sometimes without thinking about them. We were given a gift from God, we should be celebrating the birth of our savior. We can celebrate by remembering and also by sharing Gods love with others. Giving gifts to friends and family is a wonderful way of remembering the great gift that was given to us. God loves you, spread it!!

I think it is very meaningful, although it is much more commercialized that ever before. It seems that the more you spend the more people want. That is not what it is all about.

Christmas is whatever you and your family make it out to be.

For me and my family, it's meaningful. No one forces any of us to buy gifts for everyone we've ever met and go broke in the process. For my family, yes the gifts are nice, but the holiday is about getting together with family and friends, and for many of them it also includes celebrating Jesus' birth.

I would say that it depends totally on the way each individual chooses to view it. For me, it is a time when I get together with all my kids, we exchange gifts, have a great meal, enjoy each others company and acknowledge that it is a religious festival.

Christmas means different things to different people, at the end of the day it is what individuals make it.

The soulless commericial money maker is "Holidays" and "Holiday season."

Where people still use the term christmas it tends to still have meaning.
