Blacks claim that the democrats are their party yet they are more blacks in higher positions than democrats. clarence thomas is the only black supreme justice. George Bush made Colin Powell first black secretary of state and Candoleeza Rich first black woman secretary of state. I think that the republicans would choose one of these candidates in 2012 if they lose to democrats to get more black southern support.

Clarence Thomas is not the first black Justice of the Supreme Court. Thurgood Marshall, the first African American to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States was appointed by Lyndon Johnson. He actually made some rulings that promoted equality. As a member of the Supreme Court, Clarence Thomas will never run for President. Few blacks would support him if he did. After how this administration treated Colin Powell, no intelligent self respecting black person will trust the Neocon wing of the Republican Party. Condoleeza Rice is a sellout and a sycophant. Southern or urban blacks won't support her.

NO. The GOP has put a handful oftoken blacksintohighly visible positions. That does not change--or excuse, their racism and bigotry. They will never have a major candidate fornational office who is black untilthe GOP rids itself of the racist scum land the religious right with its bigotry ad intolerance.

Someof these trash still whine about "the GOP was historically the champion of blackpeople. True--but that hasn't been the case for almost 50 years.Wehn the Democrats backed the civil rights movement, the GOP turned its collective back. So theblack community becameDemocrats. And the racistsswitched totheGOP--and they are the ones in power within the PrepublicanParty.

Finally--these sameunAmericanracists have had a long--and until last year successfl--run of politicas based on nothing but spin and propaganda. but if you look at the numbers, you will see that black voters were neverfooled. And now--neither are decent whites.

I'm sorry--but the cold hard truth is the GOP is a racist party. Notinprinciple, andmany individual Republicans are not racist. But the Party--and its leadership and"core"supporters--are.

Clarence Thomas is ultra-conservative and a minority within a minority.
Colin Powell sold out and regrets his role in the build up to the Iraq War.
Condoleeza Rice was a former Oil Executive for Chevron and there's an oil tanker named after her. Bush is a former Oil Man, so it's only natural that he'd pick her as part of his administration to keep close ties with the oil industry.

Republicans only speak to and advocate on the behalf of a very small portion of the population, the RICH. Therefore, even if they run an African American as a candidate for the Presidency, they'll never win because they don't have the best interests of the vast majority of Americans in their heart and mind like Barack Obama does. Vote DEMOCRAT in '08! and Beyond!

Honestly, I dont see a potential Repub Black candiate outhere right now. Other then Obama, I dont see a Dem candiate either for that matter. The only Repub one who I think has something going for him is the former lt governor of Maryland Michael Steel, who just lost a close race for Senate, and had it not been such a bad election year for the rupubs last year, he might be in there right now. Though unless he gets another office or cabinet position, he wont be able to run for pres.

I think a more likely minority canidate, though hes not black, is the new governor of Louisana, Bobby Jindal, who just won a landslide victory. Hes Indian (India type, not native american), and there is a lot of talk about him rising through the ranks... might be ready for soemthing more just about in 2012.

Considering that the top 2 Republican african americans have taken hits on their reputation and credibility for Dubya (Rice and Powell) it is highly unlikely at this point.

Keyes doesn't stand a chance and Steele isn't enough of a brown-noser to get to higher office.

So unless you have someone else in mind.......

I DON'T THINK SO. IN MANY CASES WHERE THE REPUBLICANS HAVE RUN BLACK CANDIDATES THEY WOULD LOSE TO WHITE DEMOCRATS. THAT'S JUST HOW IT IS MOST BLACKS ONLY VOTE 0NE WAY IT SEEMS & THAT IS FOR THE DEMOCRATS.

I don't think Powell wants the job.. and I think he's the only one on your list that could win.

If Powell changed his mind.. then yes, possibly.
